Swap out pieces every season
You can instantly kill your styling mojo with off-season pieces. We are committed to the seasonal clothing swap this year, which involves storing off-season clothes in areas where they are no longer visible, and reallocating space in closets and dressers to in-season items. When the season ends (see you next December, holiday sweaters), putting in-season pieces front and center will give you inspiration for OOTDs. Place clothing pieces in totes and storage containers and store them in a storage space, spare closet, or under your bed.
Clothes are our favorite! Oh, clothes are our favorite! A lot of clothes isn’t necessarily bad, but sometimes it is. You become overwhelmed by your wardrobe when it becomes a source of chaos. Combining outfits takes longer than taking stock of your belongings. Also, what’s the point of having so many clothes you won’t wear? Pare back your wardrobe for more space. Decide what you really, truly love (and wear!) and donate or sell the rest. You still haven’t figured out what to throw away? Start here.
Embrace a capsule wardrobe
Capsule wardrobes are our favorite! The concept of a capsule wardrobe is based on pieces that can be mixed together to form endless (well, almost endless) combinations. Fox Wardrobes Kent over quantity and prioritizing items you love and want to wear repeatedly are key. Shop with your capsule wardrobe in mind by prioritizing versatility and timelessness. A mix-and-match wardrobe is a must.
Organize
If your closet or dresser is organized, getting dressed in the morning will be infinitely easier and more cathartic. I much prefer pulling rumpled clothes from an overstuffed dresser drawer instead of carefully stacked piles of neatly colored hangers.
When organizing your wardrobe, remember that there is no cookie-cutter method. Instead, you need to come up with a system that works for you. Add shelving units to your closet, arrange your clothing by color, group items according to their type, etc. Make sure you stay vigilant year-round in upholding your organization. Set aside a few minutes every Sunday before the start of the workweek to organize, straighten, and prepare your outfits for the week.
Wave goodbye to fast fashion
Fashion fast comes with its own set of drawbacks. You may not realize how chaotic and uninspired your wardrobe can become if you do not plan for it. Our goal is to avoid buying items that are cheap (both in price and quality) and prone to losing their cool overnight. Rather, we aim for long-term quality pieces that will hold our attention.
Don’t buy items you won’t wear
Consider whether you can actually wear an item before buying it. It’s no secret that we like to experiment with new styles. Keeping an eye out for items that will be used constantly versus what will gather dust in the back of your closet is also important. You can overwhelm your wardrobe and make it less functional by simply buying pieces because you feel you have to stay current. By assessing how likely you are to follow through on the trends you’re interested in, choose which ones you’d like to dabble in.
Make your wardrobe fit your lifestyle
You can tailor your wardrobe to meet the needs of your particular lifestyle by making it fit your preferences. Do you work from home? To make an impression over Zoom, you need eye-catching tops and hair accessories. Work in an office? You should have all of the basic, practical office necessities that will serve you both on your commute and at work.
The same goes for climate. Are you accustomed to cold winters? The summer season offers limited opportunities for wearing sundresses and sandals, so you probably should only rotate a few items during these months.
Assess your current situation and identify what’s missing
Some clothing items you just can’t live without: a little black dress, denim you love, a white button-up, a structured jacket. Check your closet to see what pieces you are missing. If you still need to fill in some gaps, go shopping. Making dressing easier for every occasion means having a solid assortment of essential wardrobe builders.
