When passive interventions are equated with low-value care, it is easy to deride manual therapy as “low-value” care. However, manual therapy describes a wide variety of different treatments. Manual therapy can have passive components and even be primarily passive in some scenarios. But manual therapy can also form an integral part of highly active treatment strategies. We implore investigators to describe manual therapy interventions used in trials in sufficient detail that can be reproduced, to help end-users of research (including clinicians) make better decisions when assessing the value of treatments. This viewpoint challenges the assumption that manual therapy is always a passive treatment of low value. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther, Epub 1 Jul 2021. doi10.2519/jospt.2021.10330.
To assess the relationship of individual article citations in the Sport Sciences field to (i) journal impact factor; (ii) each article’s open access status; and (iii) Altmetric score components.
Cross-sectional.
We searched the ISI Web of Knowledge InCites Journal Citation Reports database “Sport Sciences” category for the 20 journals with the highest 2-year impact factor in 2018. see more We extracted the impact factor for each journal and each article’s open access status (yes or no). Between September 2019 and February 2020, we obtained individual citations, Altmetric scores and details of Altmetric components (e.g. number of tweets, Facebook posts, etc.) for each article published in 2017. Linear and multiple regression models were used to assess the relationship between the dependent variable (citation number) and the independent variables article Altmetric score and open access status, and journal impact factor.
4,022 articles were included. Total Altmetric score, journal impact factor and open access status, respectively explained 32%, 14%, and 1% of the variance in article citations (when combined, the variables explained 40% of the variance in article citations). The number of tweets related to an article was the Altmetric component that explained the highest proportion of article citations (37%).
Altmetric scores in Sports Sciences journals have a stronger relationship with number of citations than does journal impact factor or open access status. Twitter may be the best social media platform to promote a research article as it has a strong relationship with article citations.

To assess the diagnostic test accuracy of pain provocation tests for the sacroiliac joint.
Systematic review of diagnostic test accuracy.
Eight electronic databases and reference lists of included studies and previous reviews.
Studies investigating the diagnostic accuracy of clusters of clinical tests for sacroiliac joint pain.
Bivariate random effects meta-analysis was employed. Risk of bias and applicability concerns were assessed using the QUADAS-2 tool and the GRADE tool to judge credibility of evidence.
From 2195 records identified in the search, five studies were included that assessed clusters of pain provocation tests for the sacroiliac joint. The estimated likelihood ratios (LLR) and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) were positive LLR (2.13, 95%CI 1.2, 3.9), negative LLR (0.33, 95% CI 0.11, 0.72) and DOR (9.01, 95% CI 1.72, 28.4). GRADE ratings for the outcomes were of very low certainty. Assuming a point prevalence of sacroiliac joint pain of 20%, we calculated positive posterior probability o more confidence-the negative post-test probability indicates the clinician can conclude with 92% certainty that a negative test result is correct. This study aimed to explore the structure-activity relationship of CDK4 inhibitor abemaciclib analogs and design potent CDK4 inhibitors for breast cancer treatment. Methods & results A faithful 3D quantitative structure-activity relationship model was established by molecular docking, comparative molecular field analysis and comparative molecular similarity index analysis based on 56 abemaciclib analogs. Molecular dynamics simulation studies revealed the key residues of the interaction between CDK4 and inhibitors. Four novel inhibitors with satisfactory predicted binding affinity to CDK4 were designed. Conclusion The 3D quantitative structure-activity relationship and molecular dynamics simulation studies provide valuable insight into the development of novel CDK4 inhibitors.Breath-by-breath oxygen-carbon dioxide (O2-CO2) exchange ratio (bER) is a respiratory gas exchange (RGE) metric, which is the ratio of the changes in the partial pressure of O2 (ΔPO2) to CO2 (ΔPCO2) between end-inspiration and end-expiration, has been demonstrated to characterize the cerebrovascular responses to breath-hold challenge in healthy individuals. We aimed to explore whether bER could characterize cerebrovascular responses in patients with chronic mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) under breath-hold challenge. We also investigated the correlation between bER and the severity of post-concussion symptoms. Blood-oxygenation-level-dependent (BOLD) images were acquired using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) on 10 patients with chronic mTBI and 10 controls without brain injury history when performing a breath-hold task. Time series of RGE metrics of ΔPO2, ΔPCO2, and bER were computed, and their cross-correlation with regional change in BOLD (ΔBOLD) was calculated. Symptom burden was assessed using the Rivermead Post Concussion Questionnaire (RPQ), and its correlation with RGE changes was also measured. Compared with controls, a diffuse decrease in the correlation between regional ΔBOLD and bER was found in the brain of patients with mTBI (pfdr less then 0.05). No significant difference was found between patients and controls for the correlation of regional ΔBOLD with ΔPO2 and ΔPCO2. Symptom severity indicated by RPQ scores increased with a decrease in the averaged changes of bER (ρ = 0.79, p = 0.01) and ΔPO2 (ρ = 0.70, p = 0.03) in breath-hold epochs. Our imaging and symptom severity findings suggest that bER can be used to characterize cerebrovascular responses to breath hold in patients with mTBI. The RGE may contribute to the post-concussive symptom severity.
