Foot ulcers are one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality among diabetics in India. Delamanid Early diagnosis and timely management is vital in preventing the progression of the disease which may require amputation. Conventional methods take a long time for healing. This study aims to compare negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) and conventional saline dressings in diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) healing.
This prospective randomized study was conducted in 45 patients with grade 1 and 2 DFUs. 22 patients in group A received NPWT and 23 patients in group B received saline dressings. The formation of granulation tissue, reduction in ulcer size, duration of hospital stay and time for complete healing of wounds were assessed.
The formation of granulation tissue (91.14 vs 52.61%, p<0.001) and reduction in ulcer size (40.78 vs 21.18%, p=0.008) at 14 days was significantly more in group A. The duration of hospital stay (15.68 vs 29.00 days, p<0.001) and time for 100% coverage of the wound with granulation tissue (14.82±7.30 vs 44.57±7.11 days, p<0.001) was significantly less in group A. Complete healing of wounds at 3 months was observed in 20 patients (90.9%) in group A and 6 patients (26.1%) in group B (p=0.006).
In our study NPWT led to early reduction in ulcer size, more granulation tissue formation, shorter hospital stay and complete wound healing. In lower and middle income countries like India with high prevalence of DFUs, early recovery is a boon to the patients to resume their daily activities.

My quasi-experimental design evaluates an expansion in maternity leave coverage from two to six months, which occurred in the Federal Republic of Germany in 1979. The expansion came into effect after a sharp cutoff date and significantly increased the time working mothers stayed at home with their newborns during the first six months after childbirth. Using this cutoff date as a source of exogenous variation, I exploit German hospital registry data, which contains detailed information on the universe of inpatients’ diagnoses from 1995-2014. By tracking the health of treated and control children from age 16 up to age 35, this study provides new insights into the trajectory of health differentials over the life-cycle. We exploit differential geographic exposure to the reformulation of OxyContin, the largest reduction in access to abusable prescription opioids to date, to study the effects of substitution to illicit markets. We observe meaningful reductions in labor supply measured in terms of employment-to-population ratios, hours worked, and earnings in states more exposed to reformulation relative to those less exposed. We also find evidence of increases in disability applications and beneficiaries.
Despite reliable definitions and evidence of harm to children, psychological maltreatment (PM) is significantly less reported to Child Protective Services than physical or sexual abuse in the United States (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2016).
The goal of this study was to identify factors influencing identification and intent to report psychological maltreatment.
The sample was comprised of membership of the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC), a multi-disciplinary group of professionals in the field of child maltreatment.
An anonymous online survey was administered with a 39 % (N = 538) response rate.
Only 4 of the 18 items, preselected by experts as representing all PM subtypes in the APSAC- endorsed definition (Hart, Brassard, Baker, & Chiel, 2019), were identified by most respondents as definitely PM. Most respondents believed that PM was associated with harmful outcomes “sometimes” or “mostly.” Respondents revealed an intent to report to CPS only 4 of the 18 PM behaviors. Identification of a behavior as PM and as harmful predicted intent to report, explaining between 8-11 percent of the variance.

Definitions were provided, followed either by two sentences that were semantically correct exemplars, called semantic reinforcement learning, or by one correct sentence and a contrasting incorrect sentence (i.e., example followed by a structurally aligned non-example), called semantic discrimination learning. Type of learning was blocked, and examples and non-examples were explained. Effects of affix frequency were also assessed. Students were taught words, followed by assessments of abilities to recall the meanings of the words immediately after learning them, to choose the correct words among distractors to match given definitions after all words had been instructed, and to judge the semantic veracity of new sentences containing taught words 1-3 days later. Explanatory item response models were used to predict word learning using student and item characteristics along with their interactions. Few grade-related differences emerged.
