Airborne PAEs were mainly stored in leaf surfaces of vegetables grown inside greenhouse, while PAEs absorbed by roots from soil were translocated and mainly stored in mesophyll, especially in cell walls and organelles. PAE concentrations in mesophyll elevated with increasing soil PAE levels, whereas those in leaf surfaces were not influenced by soil PAE levels. The values of bioconcentration factors for leaves inside greenhouses were significantly (1.39-3.47 fold) higher than those outside. PAE-degrading strain (Rhodococcus pyridinivorans XB) sprayed on leaf surfaces could grow well and Rhodococcus was the dominant genus as confirmed by Illumina high-throughput sequencing. PAE-degrading strain effectively reduced PAEs by 12.9%-34.9% in leaf surface, but not those in vegetables grown in high-PAE soil.     Cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most common gynecological malignancy globally. This suggests the need for improved markers for prognosis, better understanding of the molecular mechanism, and targets for therapy. The defective exocytosis pathway is proposed as bona fide drivers of carcinogenesis. This study aimed to identify the exocytosis pathway network and its contribution to CC.

    We screened exocytosis genes from the The Cancer Genome Atlas Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Endocervical Adenocarcinoma (TCGA-CESC) dataset and performed differential expression and methylation, Kaplan-Meier survival, and pathway enrichment analysis. We constructed the protein-protein interaction networks (PPIN), predicted the possible metastatic genes, and identified FDA approved drugs to target the exocytosis network in CC.

    Integrated bioinformatics analysis identified 245 differentially methylated genes, including 153 hypermethylated and 92 hypomethylated genes. Further, 89 exocytosis pathway genes were differents that are already in use for treating CC.

    The outcomes of patients with sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to assess mortality, trends, predictors, and outcomes in patients of SCA and COPD from a large inpatient administrative database.

    Data from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) was used from January 2002 to December 2014. Patients were identified by applying relevant International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification codes. Propensity score matching was applied for adjustment of cofounders. Binomial multiple logistic regression analysis was used to assess for predictors of mortality.

    In total 59,610 were identified with sudden cardiac arrest in which 13,195 (22.1%) patients had COPD. The mean age was 65.6 years. 37.8% were females. In the propensity match cohort, Mortality was 44.4% in patients with SCA without COPD when compared to 47.6% in SCA patients with COPD (p<0.01). COPD was independently associated with higher mortality (OR, 1.121 [95% CI; 1.070-1.175] p<0.01). Comorbidities like, diabetes mellitus and liver disease were associated with higher mortality. Female sex, racial and ethnic minorities were independent predictors for higher mortality.

    Patients with cirrhosis are uniquely predisposed to infections, which can lead to acute decompensation and an increase in mortality rates. We hypothesized that not only are cirrhotic patients more likely to develop certain infections, but that specific infections are associated with poorer outcomes. Therefore, we aimed to examine the epidemiology, bacteriology, and outcomes of infections in cirrhotic patients admitted to the hospital.

    In this single center observational retrospective cohort study, we identified admissions in which patients had an infection from a group of all admissions of cirrhotics from 2011-2016. Infections were categorized by the primary source of infection, and rigorous clinical and bacteriologic definitions were used.
