g., chemical, waste management and electro-coating industries). The economic assessment indicates that the use of municipal reclaimed water is economically competitive in front of the use of tap water in the BMA, providing savings between 0.13 and 0.52 €/m3 for the waste management industry and between 0.49 and 0.98 €/m3 for the electrocoating industry. On the other hand, the use of groundwater in one of the industrial sites and its relatively low cost implied that, although it is necessary a RO, the current cost of water is significantly lower.Uptake pathway and accumulation variation of soil and airborne phthalates (PAEs) in plastic greenhouses by vegetables remains unclear. Here, pot experiments of Chinese flowering cabbage were designed to distinguish root or leaf uptake pathways of PAEs, and investigate the mitigation of spraying PAE-degrading strain in PAE accumulation by vegetables. The results showed that leaves of Chinese flowering cabbage grown in plastic greenhouses absorbed more PAEs from air than those of outside greenhouses. Airborne PAEs were mainly stored in leaf surfaces of vegetables grown inside greenhouse, while PAEs absorbed by roots from soil were translocated and mainly stored in mesophyll, especially in cell walls and organelles. PAE concentrations in mesophyll elevated with increasing soil PAE levels, whereas those in leaf surfaces were not influenced by soil PAE levels. The values of bioconcentration factors for leaves inside greenhouses were significantly (1.39-3.47 fold) higher than those outside. PAE-degrading strain (Rhodococcus pyridinivorans XB) sprayed on leaf surfaces could grow well and Rhodococcus was the dominant genus as confirmed by Illumina high-throughput sequencing. PAE-degrading strain effectively reduced PAEs by 12.9%-34.9% in leaf surface, but not those in vegetables grown in high-PAE soil. This study demonstrated mitigation of spraying PAE-degrading strain in PAE accumulation by vegetable leaves from air of plastic greenhouse.Statin use accompanies with increased risk of new onset of type 2 diabetes, however, the underlying mechanisms remain not be fully understood and effective prevention strategies are still lacking. Herein, we find that both pharmacological and genetic inhibition of GGTase II mimic the disruption of simvastatin on hepatic insulin signaling and glucose metabolism in vitro. AAV8-mediated knockdown of liver RABGGTA, the specific subunit of GGTase II, triggers systemic glucose metabolism disorders in vivo. By adopting a small-scale siRNA screening, we identify RAB14 as a regulator of hepatic insulin signaling and glucose metabolism. Geranylgeranylation deficiency of RAB14 inhibits the phosphorylation of AKT (Ser473) and disrupts hepatic insulin signaling and glucose metabolism possibly via impeding mTORC2 complex assembly. Finally, geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP) supplementation is sufficient to prevent simvastatin-caused disruption of hepatic insulin signaling and glucose metabolism in vitro. Geranylgeraniol (GGOH), a precursor of GGPP, is able to ameliorate simvastatin-induced systemic glucose metabolism disorders in vivo. In conclusion, our data indicate that statins-targeted mevalonate pathway regulates hepatic insulin signaling and glucose metabolism via geranylgeranylation of RAB14. GGPP/GGOH supplementation might be an effective strategy for the prevention of the diabetic effects of statins.
Cervical cancer (CC) is the fourth most common gynecological malignancy globally. This suggests the need for improved markers for prognosis, better understanding of the molecular mechanism, and targets for therapy. The defective exocytosis pathway is proposed as bona fide drivers of carcinogenesis. This study aimed to identify the exocytosis pathway network and its contribution to CC.
We screened exocytosis genes from the The Cancer Genome Atlas Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Endocervical Adenocarcinoma (TCGA-CESC) dataset and performed differential expression and methylation, Kaplan-Meier survival, and pathway enrichment analysis. We constructed the protein-protein interaction networks (PPIN), predicted the possible metastatic genes, and identified FDA approved drugs to target the exocytosis network in CC.
Integrated bioinformatics analysis identified 245 differentially methylated genes, including 153 hypermethylated and 92 hypomethylated genes. Further, 89 exocytosis pathway genes were differents that are already in use for treating CC.
In summary, we have identified the exocytosis pathway networks, candidate genes, and novel drugs for better management of CC.

There are certain signs that have classically been described as chest x-ray findings suggestive of pulmonary embolism. These include Palla’s sign, Westermark sign, and Hampton’s Hump. We present a case of a woman with a pulmonary embolism whose initial chest x-rays showed the co-occurrence of Palla’s sign, Westermark sign, and Hampton’s Hump, a rare scenario on the initial chest x-ray of a patient with pulmonary embolism.
The outcomes of patients with sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to assess mortality, trends, predictors, and outcomes in patients of SCA and COPD from a large inpatient administrative database.
Data from the National Inpatient Sample (NIS) was used from January 2002 to December 2014. Patients were identified by applying relevant International Classification of Diseases, Ninth Revision, Clinical Modification codes. Propensity score matching was applied for adjustment of cofounders. Binomial multiple logistic regression analysis was used to assess for predictors of mortality.
In total 59,610 were identified with sudden cardiac arrest in which 13,195 (22.1%) patients had COPD. The mean age was 65.6 years. 37.8% were females. In the propensity match cohort, Mortality was 44.4% in patients with SCA without COPD when compared to 47.6% in SCA patients with COPD (p<0.01). COPD was independently associated with higher mortality (OR, 1.121 [95% CI; 1.070-1.175] p<0.01). Comorbidities like, diabetes mellitus and liver disease were associated with higher mortality. Female sex, racial and ethnic minorities were independent predictors for higher mortality.
SCA in settings of COPD may have high mortality when compared to patients with SCA and no concomitant COPD. Further research delving into potential mechanisms for SCA in COPD patients is warranted.

Patients with cirrhosis are uniquely predisposed to infections, which can lead to acute decompensation and an increase in mortality rates. We hypothesized that not only are cirrhotic patients more likely to develop certain infections, but that specific infections are associated with poorer outcomes. Therefore, we aimed to examine the epidemiology, bacteriology, and outcomes of infections in cirrhotic patients admitted to the hospital.
In this single center observational retrospective cohort study, we identified admissions in which patients had an infection from a group of all admissions of cirrhotics from 2011-2016. Infections were categorized by the primary source of infection, and rigorous clinical and bacteriologic definitions were used.
We identified 1,208 admissions in 877 unique patients during the study period. The most common infections identified were as follows urinary tract infections (33%), pneumonia (23%), spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (14%), and bacteremia (11%). Gram-positive organismesence of evidence of sepsis. Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis and bacteremia are now most commonly due to gram-positive organisms and fungal infections appear to be rising in prevalence.Cannabis (Cannabis sativa L.) for medical purposes has been legalized again in many countries in recent years. Currently, only two major cannabinoids (Δ9-THC and CBD) are considered in the legislation and medication, which is not sufficient in case of dried plant material or resulting extract. Other substances (mainly terpenes/terpenoids), or their specific combinations, could influence the resulting therapeutic effect for specific oncology diagnosis and specific patients. Six different genotypes (Conspiracy Kush, Jilly Bean, Jack Cleaner 2, Jack Skellington, Nordle and Nurse Jackie) were cultivated indoor at the Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. Ethanol extracts taken from the inflorescences were assayed for their content of main cannabinoids and terpenes/terpenoids. The extracts were used for in vitro cytotoxicity studies on hepatocarcinoma human cell lines Hep-G2 and colorectal carcinoma human cell lines Caco-2 and Ht-29. Healthy lung fibroblast MRC-5 and healthy intestinal cells FHs 74 Int were ustypes for preclinical and clinical studies, which are still lacking.Osler’s disease is an autosomal dominant disorder characterized by epistaxis, telangiectases, and arteriovenous malformations of the internal organs. Herein, we report the first published case of dissecting thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysm repair in a 66-year-old woman with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia associated with ACVRL1 gene mutations. We maintained the activated clotting time around 400 seconds during cardiopulmonary bypass to avoid lethal hemorrhage from telangiectases or arteriovenous malformations. The Adamkiewicz artery could not be identified on imaging studies preoperatively. Therefore, we used the snake technique for intercostal revascularization, which was effective in preventing paraplegia. We report a rare case of lung metastasis of thyroid carcinoma showing a pure ground-glass nodule in a 68-year-old man who underwent total thyroidectomy and lymph node dissection in 2004. We followed the nodule growth, found 5 years after the surgery in the right lower lobe, using computed tomography and observed a gradual enlargement to 8 mm in 11 years. Postoperative pathology and immunohistochemistry revealed that the tumor was a papillary carcinoma that metastasized from the thyroid. This report may help clinicians recognize pure ground-glass nodules as lung metastasis of thyroid carcinoma and avoid misdiagnosis as lung adenocarcinoma.
One of the major cognitive deficits in fibromyalgia has been linked to the hypervigilance phenomenon. this website It is mainly reflected as a negative bias for allocating attentional resources towards both threatening and pain-related information. Although the interest in its study has recently grown, the neural temporal dynamics of the attentional bias in fibromyalgia still remains an open question.
Fifty participants (25 fibromyalgia patients and 25 healthy control subjects) performed a dot-probe task. Two types of facial expressions (pain-related and neutral) were employed as signal stimuli. Then, as a target stimulus, a single dot replaced the location of one of these two faces. Event-related potentials (ERP) in response to facial expressions and target stimulation (i.e., dot) were recorded. Reaction time (RT) and accuracy measures in the experimental task were collected as behavioural outcomes.
Temporal dynamics of brain electrical activity were analysed on two ERP components (P2 and N2a) sensitive to the facial expressions meaning.
