Pigmented intraepidermal carcinoma is characterized by dermatoscopic dots and structureless areas, including dots in linear arrangement and by coiled vessels. There are no studies describing the dermatoscopic features of pigmented intraepidermal carcinoma on the head and neck. We aim to characterize the clinical and dermatoscopic appearance of this entity.

We retrospectively analyzed 79 cases of pigmented intraepidermal carcinoma on the head and neck.

Pigmented intraepidermal carcinoma on the head and neck was characterized dermatoscopically by multiple colors (98.7%, n=78), pigmented circles (48.1%, n=38), white circles (17.7%, n=14), angulated lines (41.8%, n=33) and structureless areas (86.1%, n=68). Dots in linear arrangement were present in 13.9% (n=11). Coiled vessels were present in 7.6% (n=6), the dominant vessel type being prominent serpentine vessels (29.2%, n=23), thicker and/or redder in color than surrounding vessels, most being in the angular arrangement of the dermal plexus (24.1%, n=19).

Pigmented intraepidermal carcinoma on the head and neck differs from current published descriptions of pigmented intraepidermal carcinoma, reaching statistical significance with a lower incidence of coiled vessels and a higher incidence of pigmented circles, with evident similarities to pigmented actinic keratosis at that location.

A literature search in PubMed, Web of Science and Scopus was carried out to identify publications reporting clinical outcomes of patients who were implanted with the V4c ICL model and had a follow-up period of at least 6 months. A total of 35 clinical studies published between 2012 and 2020 were included in the present review. A comprehensive analysis of the available data was performed, focusing on visual and refractive outcomes at different time-points post-surgery. In addition, adverse events and other parameters such as endothelial cell density, intraocular pressure and vault measurements-which were evaluated in some of the studies-were also compared. This review encompassed a total of 2904 eyes. click here The outcomes reported in this review lead us to conclude that ICL V4c implantation for myopia correction is a safe and efficient procedure, with stable visual and refractive outcomes and low adverse event rates. The patient’s anterior segment should be thoroughly characterized, and the ICL parameters should be carefully selected so as to achieve good outcomes and avoid complications.Differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) survivors are at increased risk of developing double primary malignancy (DPM). The aim of this study was to investigate clinicopathological characteristics and survival in DTC patients diagnosed with DPM. A total of 975 patients with DTC diagnosed between 2013 and 2017, treated, and followed at a medical center in Taiwan were retrospectively reviewed. Data from enrolled patients were analyzed for differences in prognosis dependent on the presence of DPM, and which clinicopathological variables affected their prognosis. Among 975 thyroid cancer patients, 94 (9.6%) were diagnosed with DPMs and 16 (1.6%) patients died of any cause. DPM patients had a greater proportion of males, had a higher mean age, more commonly presented with a thyroid mass incidentally by imaging and cervical lymph node metastases, showed a more advanced thyroid cancer stage, and had a higher proportion of lymph node metastases. Overall survival (OS) was significantly lower in patients diagnosed with DPM. Male gender (hazard ratio [HR] = 4.597), two or more DPMs (HR = 8.071), and shorter time interval between two cancers occurrences (HR = 7.101) were significantly risk factors for DPM-related death. In conclusion, the risk of developing DPM in DTC patients was elevated in older, male patients with an advanced tumor-node-metastasis stage. DPM adversely affected the OS of thyroid cancer patients. Male gender, two or more DPMs, and shorter time interval between occurrences were significant risk factors for OS in DPM patients.Osteogenesis induced by mechanical stretch is the main factor affecting the orthodontic treatment. Due to the masticatory force transmitted by tooth, human periodontal ligament fibroblasts (hPDLFs) could enhance osteogenic differentiation, and remolding of periodontal. Therefore, in-depth study of hPDLFs osteogenic differentiation and its regulatory mechanism is helpful in the understanding of periodontal remolding promoted by orthodontic force. In the present study, 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide showed that miR-140 inhibited the viability of hPDLFs cells. Moreover, we provided evidence that miR-140 inhibited alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, Alizarin Red S (ARS) activity and the mRNA expression of osteogenesis associated genes, including ALP, runt-related transcription factor 2, collagen 1, and osteocalcin. Besides, double-luciferase reporter result demonstrated that Ras homolog gene family, member A (RhoA) was a downstream target gene of miR-140, and by inhibiting RhoA-transcriptional co-activator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ) signaling pathway, miR-140 suppressed the osteogenesis differentiation of hPDLFs. Furthermore, overexpression of RhoA or TAZ promoted ALP activity, ARS activity and osteogenesis associated genes expression, which was inhibited by miR-140 mimics. Our findings not only provided a possible mechanism of hPDLFs osteogenic differentiation but also proposed the clinical application of miR-140 inhibitor to target RhoA-TAZ for orthodontic treatment.Retraction Qiu, H., Zhang, L., Yi, T., Yang, K., Gong, Y. and Xie, C.
