Microstructural changes, physicochemical behavior, and protein digestion were examined; the release of lipids and protein during digestion was quantified. Under acidic gastric conditions, almond oil bodies flocculated. Proteolysis by pepsin led to destabilization and coalescence of the oil bodies, resulting in creaming and phase separation. This phase separation significantly delayed the delivery of lipids to the small intestine. After 225 min of digestion, ∼42% of the lipids remained in the stomach. In contrast, protein release was not significantly affected by the gastric behavior of the almond oil bodies. This study provides a better understanding of how the digestive system manages plant lipids, and may be useful in the microstructural design of foods to achieve a controlled physiological response during digestion.Aldehyde is a versatile chemical handle for protein modification. Mechanistic studies indicate that the reaction proceeded via a radical mechanism.BACKGROUND This study examined whether use of a specific questionnaire sheet for nontraumatic osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) could affect the subclassification of ONFH compared with a conventional medical interview. NSC 123127 ic50 MATERIAL AND METHODS Study participants consisted of 400 patients with ONFH who visited our hospital between February 2011 and March 2015. Data on history of systemic steroid therapy and habitual alcohol intake were obtained during a conventional medical interview at the first visit and were re-evaluated using a specific questionnaire sheet at another visit. Patients were subclassified into 4 groups steroid-associated, alcohol-associated, steroid/alcohol-associated, or idiopathic ONFH. RESULTS Use of the specific questionnaire sheet resulted in a 4.0% increase in the proportion of patients with a history of systemic steroid therapy, from 57.3% (n=229) to 61.3% (n=245), and a 14.3% increase for history of habitual alcohol intake, from 35.0% (n=140) to 49.3% (n=197). The proportion of patients with steroid/alcohol-associated ONFH increased from 2.5% (n=10) to 17.8% (n=71), while the proportion in the other 3 groups decreased steroid-associated ONFH from 54.8% (n=219) to 43.5% (n=174); alcohol-associated ONFH from 32.5% (n=130) to 31.5% (n=126); and idiopathic ONFH from 10.2% (n=41) to 7.2% (n=29). Ninety-six patients (24.0%) were classified into a different subgroup based on the specific questionnaire sheet. CONCLUSIONS The use of a specific questionnaire sheet can change the distribution of ONFH subclassifications compared with use of a conventional medical history interview. Use of a specific questionnaire sheet can allow for more detailed self-reporting regarding potential causative factors for nontraumatic ONFH, especially habitual alcohol intake.BACKGROUND This study focused on developing an upper limb rehabilitation program. In this regard, a steady state visual evoked potential (SSVEP) triggered brain computer interface (BCI)-functional electrical stimulation (FES) based action observation game featuring a flickering action video was designed. OBJECTIVE In particular, the synergetic effect of the game was investigated by combining the action observation paradigm with BCI based FES. METHODS The BCI-FES system was contrasted under two conditions with flickering action video and flickering noise video. In this regard, 11 right-handed subjects aged between 22-27 years were recruited. The differences in brain activation in response to the two conditions were examined. RESULTS The results indicate that T3 and P3 channels exhibited greater Mu suppression in 8-13 Hz for the action video than the noise video. Furthermore, T4, C4, and P4 channels indicated augmented high beta (21-30 Hz) for the action in contrast to the noise video. Finally, T4 indicated suppressed low beta (14-20 Hz) for the action video in contrast to the noise video. CONCLUSION The flickering action video based BCI-FES system induced a more synergetic effect on cortical activation than the flickering noise based system.BACKGROUND It is important to quantitatively assess tremor for accurate diagnosis and evaluation of the response to interventions in patients with essential tremor (ET). OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between quantitative measures of postural tremor and clinical rating scale in patients with ET. METHODS 18 ET patients performed a postural tremor task that required them to hold their arms outstretched parallel to the floor while wearing a gyro sensor based measurement system. The time domain variables were derived from the sensor signals. Additionally, the frequency domain variables were derived from the power spectrum of the angular velocity signal. Spearman correlation analysis was employed in the relationship between the variables and clinical score. RESULTS The RMS angular velocity of roll and yaw directions at the hand joint were strongly correlated with the clinical rating scale (r= 0.7, p 0.05). CONCLUSION These results indicate that hand tremor of roll and yaw directions are more associated with assessment of severity of ET compared to other joints.
