    It was established that the administration of an aqueous solution of bis(µ-tartrato)di(μ-hydroxy) germanate (IV) triethanolammonium to animals daily for 2 months at a dose of the active substance of 10 mg/kg of the animal’s weight leads to inhibition of the total activity of the alkaline phospholipase A2 of mononuclear cells. The results of the study can be used to correct lipid metabolism in the development of disorders in hyperlipidemia. This makes it possible to expand the scope of use of the studied substance and create new pharmaceuticals based on bis(µ-tartrato)di(μ-hydroxy) germanate (IV) triethanolammonium prevent and inhibit the development of hyperlipidemia.A new stable line of human keratinocytes was obtained. Previously, we studied the properties of MLE on the Drosophila melanogaster model. In the present work we continue studying the functions of MLE and show that MLE interacts with the components of the SWI/SNF chromatin remodelling complex. To clarify the work of MLE, the profile of MLE binding to the regulatory elements of the SWI/SNF-dependent ftz-f1 gene was analyzed. The effect of MLE on the expression of this gene, the transcription of which occurs by the RNA polymerase II pausing mechanism, was investigated. The data obtained indicate the important role of MLE in ensuring timely activation and high level of expression of the ftz-f1 gene in vivo.

    Postural tachycardia syndrome (POTS), a syndrome characterized by orthostatic symptoms and a heart rate increase of at least 30 beats per minute in the absence of hypotension upon standing, is often accompanied by increased sympathetic activity and low blood volume. A common non-pharmacologic recommendation for patients with POTS is a high-sodium (HS) diet with the goal of bolstering circulating blood volume. The objective of this study is to assess the effects of 6days of a HS diet on endothelial function in POTS.

    A total of 14 patients with POTS and 13 age-matched healthy controls, all females, were studied following 6 days on a low-sodium (LS) diet (10mEq/day) and 6 days on a HS diet (300mEq/day) in a crossover design. We measured endothelial function following reactive hyperemia in the brachial artery using flow-mediated dilation (FMD), leg blood flow (LBF) using strain gauge plethysmography in the calf, and reactive hyperemic index (RHI) in the microcirculation of the hand using pulsatile arterial tonometry.

    On the LS diet, FMD% did not differ between patients with POTS and the healthy controls although peak brachial artery diameter was lower for the patient group. RHI was higher for the patient group than for the controls, but there were no differences in post-ischemic LBF increase. On the HS diet, there were no between-group differences in FMD%, LBF increase, or RHI.

    In summary, a HS diet for 6 days did not induce endothelial dysfunction. This non-pharmacologic treatment used for patients with POTS does not negatively affect endothelial function when used for a sub-acute duration.

    “Cultured food” is focused worldwide as “the third stage in meat production system” after hunting and livestock farming, and a sustainable food production system. In this study, we attempted to fabricate a three-dimensional (3-D) tissue by co-cultivation of animal cells with photosynthetic autotrophic microalgae so as to produce thicker and healthy cultured foods.

    Metabolism and damage of co-cultured tissues fabricated by microalgae, Chlorella vulgaris (C. vulgaris), and C2C12 cells were compared to monoculture tissues fabricated by C2C12 animal cells alone. Although the metabolism of monoculture tissue showed anaerobic respiration (ratio of lactate production to glucose consumption, LG ratio 2.01 ± 0.15), that of the co-culture tissue partially changed to efficient aerobic respiration (LG ratio 1.58 ± 0.14). In addition, the amount of ammonia in the culture media decreased markedly by co-cultivation. Gefitinib The release of lactate dehydrogenase from the thicker tissue was one-seventh in the co-cultivation, showing improved tissue damage. The co-cultivation with microalgae improved the culture condition of thicker tissues, resulting in the fabrication/maintenance of 200-400 µm-thickness tissues. The co-cultured tissue fabricated by microalgae and animal cells was not only rich in nutrients but also enabled thicker tissue fabrication without tissue damage as compared to tissue fabricated by animal cells alone.

    This tissue fabrication system by co-culture of microalgae and animal cells will be a valuable tool for the production of thicker and healthy cultured food.

The COVID-19 global pandemic served as a stimulus for rapid expansion and implementation of telemedicine services across medical institutions worldwide in order to maximize patient care delivery, minimize exposure risk among healthcare providers and patients alike, and avoid overcrowding of patient care facilities. In this experience report, we highlight the teledermatology initiatives executed by the Dermatology Service at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, with particular emphasis on image ingestion and potential for future automation and improvement.The purpose of this study was to ascertain elementary schoolteachers’ perceptions of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in northern Jordan. This study utilized a descriptive cross-sectional research design using a self-reporting questionnaire to gather data from elementary schoolteachers in northern Jordan from February to June 2019. The results indicate that elementary schoolteachers in northern Jordan have negative perceptions regarding ADHD and its causes, treatment, and diagnosis. The lack of professional pre-service training and education about children’s behavioral problems overall, but especially regarding ADHD knowledge and management of children with ADHD was found to be deficient among our sample of elementary schoolteachers. The pronounced lack of research on teacher management of ADHD in children in Jordan may have contributed to these findings. Structured educational and training programs addressing children with ADHD should be implemented to enhance teachers’ knowledge about ADHD and to improve their role in helping the affected children and their families.
