    When traditional interventions are used in long term care for catheter associated urinary tract infection (CAUTI) prevention, residual rates are still high despite a decrease. We conducted a quality improvement study focusing our interventions on patient and staff behavioral patterns identified through a structured huddle process to improve upon the basics for CAUTI prevention.

    Baseline was from January 2016 to March 2017; the intervention period was from April 2017 to June 2020. We implemented a systematic huddle to determine root cause of each CAUTI and applied lessons throughout the facility. We measured the monthly CAUTI incidence per 1000 urinary catheter days and analyzed the reduction in CAUTI during the intervention period.

    CAUTI decreased by 73% during the intervention period compared to the baseline period, with an IRR of 0.27 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.11-0.66; P = .004).     Approximately 1000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) occur each day in the United States. Although sex differences exist for other cardiovascular conditions such as stroke and acute myocardial infarction, they are less well understood for OHCA. Specifically, the extent to which neurological and survival outcomes after OHCA differ between men and women remains poorly characterized in the U.S.

    Within the national Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) registry, we identified 326,138 adults with an OHCA from 2013 to 2019. Using multivariable logistic regression, we evaluated for sex differences in rates of survival to hospital admission, survival to hospital discharge, and favorable neurological survival (i.e., without severe neurological disability), adjusted for demographics, cardiac arrest characteristics and bystander interventions.     Large racial and socioeconomic inequalities exist for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) care and outcomes. We sought to characterize racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities in OHCA care and outcomes in Texas.

    We analyzed 2014-2018 Texas-Cardiac Arrest Registry to Enhance Survival (CARES) data. Using census tracts, we defined race/ethnicity neighborhoods based on majority race/ethnicity composition non-Hispanic/Latino white, non-Hispanic/Latino black, and Hispanic/Latino. We also stratified neighborhoods into socioeconomic categories above and below the median for household income, employment rate, and high school graduation. We defined outcomes as bystander CPR rates, public bystander AED use, and survival to hospital discharge.
