The percentage of wounds suffered through biting was significantly reduced in the groups exposed to enrichment devices, notably in the turtles exposed to the SS device, followed by the RS device. Significant differences between experimental groups in the specific activities of the major intestinal protein-digesting enzymes (trypsin and chymotrypsin) were observed. There were no effects noted in the hematological parameters and the main carapace elemental profile as compared to the control treatment. These findings suggest that the RS device is most appropriate in enriching the environment of juvenile green turtles in captivity programs, as well as in zoos or aquaria.Amorphous lithium phosphorus oxynitride (LIPON) has emerged as a promising solid electrolyte for all-solid-state thin-film lithium batteries. In this context, the use of theoretical modeling to characterize, understand, or screen material properties is becoming increasingly important to complement experimental analysis or elucidate features at atomistic level that are difficult to obtain through experimental studies. Density functional theory (DFT) is the method of choice for quantum mechanical material modeling at the atomistic scale. check details The current state of the art represents DFT values, such as the formation or migration energies relevant for bulk phase of materials, as absolute numbers. Estimating the accuracy or fluctuation range of the different density functionals is challenging. In order to investigate the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of LIPON by DFT, an approach to describe the fluctuation range caused by the choice of the exchange-correlation (XC) functional is developed. Three different model systems were chosen to characterize various structural features of amorphous LIPON, which are distinguished by the cross-linking of the POu N4-u -structural units. The uncertainty Ũ is introduced as a parameter describing the fluctuation range of energy values. The uncertainty approach does not determine the accuracy of DFT results, but rather a fluctuation range in the DFT results without the need for a reference value from a higher level of theory or experiment. The uncertainty was determined for both the thermodynamic Li-vacancy formation energies and the kinetic Li-vacancy migration energies in LIPON. We assume that the uncertainty approach can be applied to different material systems with different density functionals.
Many countries use external evaluation programmes such as accreditation in order to improve quality and safety in their healthcare settings. Hospital accreditation has developed in many low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs); however, the implementation and sustainability of these programmes vary in each country. This study addresses design and implementation issues of national hospital accreditation programmes. It identifies factors which may explain why programmes can be implemented successfully in one country but not in another and derives lessons for the design and implementation of national accreditation programmes in poor-resource settings.
A multiple case study design was used, comprising three countries in the Eastern Mediterranean Region Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. In-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted with 27 key stakeholders in the three countries and experts from international organisations concerned with accreditation activities in LMICs.
The hospital accreditation programme waortant factor underpinning sustainability is recognising that the accreditation programme is an ongoing and developing quality improvement process that needs continuing and careful attention from funders and political systems if it is to survive and thrive.
Driving is a valued occupation given the independence and freedom it provides. Safe driving performance can be impacted by medical conditions, change in functional status and ageing processes. Occupational therapy driver assessors (OTDAs) provide invaluable driving recommendations; however, this requires specialist training for the therapist and is costly for clients. The number of OTDAs is not expected to meet the growing demand for expert services in this area, and little is known about the practices that non- OTDAs use to assist clients with returning to driving. The aims of this study were to investigate the practices of non-OTDAs in a community-based rehabilitation setting in Australia with respect to knowledge, confidence and skills in assessments, recommendations and outcomes for clients as part of the return to driving process.
A descriptive study including medical record audits between April and September 2019 and staff surveys were completed at a large metropolitan community-based rehabilitationped for this role. This may negatively impact on driver safety, independence and overall health and well-being of clients in community-based rehabilitation. Further research is indicated to develop evidence-based driving resources to support best practice of non-OTDAs.
Shiitake mushroom is one of the most popular delicious vegetables, although fresh shiitake mushroom has short shelf life as a result of biochemical degradation. Drying can prolong the shelf life of mushroom. Additionally, application of cold plasma pretreatments (CPT) before drying can preserve the product quality, processing costs and nutritional values. Therefore, we aimed to explore the effect of cold plasma pretreated hot-air drying at 50, 60 and 70 °C on the physicochemical characteristics, nutritional values and antioxidant activity of shiitake mushroom.
Scanning electron microscopy micrographs showed that CPT induced the surface modification of fresh shiitake (such as cellular disarrangement, cellular shrinkages, disruption or break down of cell walls, and intracellular spaces and cavities) and facilitate the rapid drying than control samples. Furthermore, CPT improved the powder qualities (bulk density, water retention and swelling index) and preserved higher nutritional attributes (sugars, vitamins, phenolic acids contents and antioxidant activity) compared to the control groups.
Conclusively, CPT could be a suitable alternative technique for improving drying characteristics and preserving nutritional attributes of agro-based products. © 2021 Society of Chemical Industry.
