In one species of shore crab (Brachyura, Varunidae), a center that supports long-term visual habituation and that matches the reniform body’s morphology has been claimed as a homolog of the insect mushroom body despite lacking traits that define it as such. The discovery in a related species of shore crab of a mushroom body possessing those defining traits renders that interpretation unsound. Two phenotypically distinct, coexisting centers cannot both be homologs of the insect mushroom body. The present commentary outlines the history of research leading to misidentification of the reniform body as a mushroom body. YK-4-279 research buy One conclusion is that if both centers support learning and memory, this would be viewed as a novel and fascinating attribute of the pancrustacean brain.
This study evaluated whether an evidence-based parenting intervention, when delivered online, could effectively address disruptive behavior problems in young children and yield outcomes comparable to in-person delivery of the same intervention.
Families (n=334) of children (3-7years; 63% White, 22% African American, 15% other races; 63% male) with disruptive behavior problems were randomized to online-delivered intervention (ODI) or staff-delivered intervention (SDI), resulting in baseline and demographic equivalence. Primary outcome measures for child disruptive behavior (independent observation, parent report) and secondary outcome measures of parenting and family impact were assessed at baseline, postintervention, and follow-up. Conducted using intent-to-treat (ITT) as well as per-protocol (PP) methods, noninferiority analyses, which drew on an HLM framework with repeat measures across three timepoints and on REML to provide unbiased estimates of model parameters, tested whether the outcome-difference blems, and reflected substantial though nonuniform noninferiority and meaningful effect sizes for secondary outcomes related to parenting and family. Future research will guide optimization of online interventions.
The tested online-delivered parenting intervention demonstrated clear noninferiority with the corresponding staff-delivered parenting intervention on the primary outcome, child disruptive behavior problems, and reflected substantial though nonuniform noninferiority and meaningful effect sizes for secondary outcomes related to parenting and family. Future research will guide optimization of online interventions.
One hundred seventy-eight dogs with cutaneous and renal glomerular vasculopathy (CRGV) were evaluated to further the understanding of the natural course of CRGV. CRGV, a form of thrombotic microangiopathy, can cause skin lesions and potentially acute kidney injury (AKI) with a high mortality rate.
Cases were submitted from multiple practices from 2012 until June 2019. Clinical histories and laboratory data were reviewed to describe the features of CRGV.
Most cases (91%) occurred between November and May. Fifteen dogs (8.4%) with CRGV were in contact with another dog that developed skin lesions +/- AKI. Limb lesions were present on 144 dogs (80.9%) at presentation. Median time from appearance of a lesion to AKI was 3 days (range -4-45 days). Neurological signs occurred in 33 dogs (18.6%) including at presentation in 2 (1.1%). Systemic signs were present in 13 dogs prior to a skin lesion (7.3%). Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs were prescribed prior to AKI identification in 92 of 170 dogs (54.1%). Thrombocytopenia was present in 115 of 137 (83.9%) of dogs.
The timeframe over which AKI may develop is longer than previously reported, neurological signs can be identified at presentation or during hospitalisation, and thrombocytopenia is even more common than previously reported.

We aimed to introduce, validate, and showcase the utility of a new construct communal collective narcissism.
We conducted four studies, in which we developed a new scale for communal collective narcissism (Study 1, N=856), tested the construct’s unique predictions (Study 2, N=276), examined its social relevance (Study 3, N=250), and assessed its implications for intergroup outcomes (Study 4, N=664).
In Study 1, we verified the structural soundness of the Communal Collective Narcissism Inventory. In Study 2, we obtained evidence for a defining feature of communal collective narcissism, namely, that it predicts communal, but not agentic, ingroup-enhancement. In Study 3, we illustrated the social relevance of communal collective narcissism. Communal collective narcissists derogated outgroup members, if those outgroups threatened the ingroup and the threat targeted the ingroup’s communion. Finally, in Study 4, we showed that communal collective narcissism predicts intergroup outcomes in the communal domain (e.g., humanitarian aid) better than agentic collective narcissism does, whereas agentic collective narcissism predicts intergroup outcomes in the agentic domain (i.e., preferences for military aggression) better than communal collective narcissism does.
The construct of communal collective narcissism is conceptually and empirically distinct from classic (i.e., agentic) collective narcissism.

Research on alternative delivery platforms, such as telehealth, to disseminate interventions to those in need is of paramount importance. The current study evaluated the effectiveness of training professionals working with individuals with ASD in behavior-analytic procedures through telehealth. Four professional-child dyads took part. Data were collected on the professionals’ treatment fidelity and number of independent steps performed by the children for 3 functional daily living skills. The study employed a multiple probe design across participants and included a cost analysis. All 4 professionals met the mastery criterion and all 4 children demonstrated increases in independence.
