    In the context of real-time control systems, it has become possible to obtain temporal resolutions of microseconds due to the development of embedded systems and the Internet of Things (IoT), the optimization of the use of processor hardware, and the improvement of architectures and real-time operating systems (RTOSs). check details All of these factors, together with current technological developments, have led to efficient central processing unit (CPU) time usage, guaranteeing both the predictability of thread execution and the satisfaction of the timing constraints required by real-time systems (RTSs). This is mainly due to time sharing in embedded RTSs and the pseudo-parallel execution of tasks in single-processor and multi-processor systems. The non-deterministic behavior triggered by asynchronous external interrupts and events in general is due to the fact that, for most commercial RTOSs, the execution of the same instruction ends in a variable number of cycles, primarily due to hazards. The software implementation of RTOS-specific mechanisms may lead to significant delays that can affect deadline requirements for some RTSs. The main objective of this paper was the design and deployment of innovative solutions to improve the performance of RTOSs by implementing their functions in hardware. The obtained architectures are intended to provide feasible scheduling, even if the total CPU utilization is close to the maximum limit. The contributions made by the authors will be followed by the validation of a high-performing microarchitecture, which is expected to allow a thread context switching time and event response time of only one clock cycle each. The main purpose of the research presented in this paper is to improve these factors of RTSs, as well as the implementation of the hardware structure used for the static and dynamic scheduling of tasks, for RTOS mechanisms specific to resource sharing and intertask communication.This study provides a brief view of chronic pulmonary aspergillosis (CPA) in the post-tuberculosis treatment community in Vietnam, a high burden tuberculosis (TB) country. In three months in late 2019, 70 post-TB patients managed at Vietnam National Lung Hospital were enrolled. Of these, 38 (54.3%) had CPA. The male/female ratio was 3/1 (28 males and ten females). CPA patients had a mean age of 59 ± 2.3 years (95%CI 54.4-63.6). The mean Body mass index (BMI) was 19.0 ± 0.5 (18.0-20.0) and 16 of 38 (42.1%) patients had concurrent diseases, the most common of which were chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and diabetes. Twenty-six patients (68.4%) developed hemoptysis, 21 (55.3%) breathlessness, and weight loss was seen in 30 (78.9%). Anaemia was seen in 15 (39.5%) and 27 of 38 (71.1%) patients had an elevated C-reactive protein (CRP). The most common radiological findings were multiple cavities (52.6%) and pleural thickening (42.7%), followed by aspergilloma (29.0%) and non-specific infiltrates. There were five of 38 patients (13.2%) with a cavity containing a fungal ball on the chest X-ray, but when the high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) was examined, the number of patients with fungal balls rose to 11 (28.9%). Overall, 34 of 38 (89.5%) cases had an elevated Aspergillus IgG with an optical density ≥ 1, and in 2 cases, it was 0.9-1.0 (5%), borderline positive. In nine patients (23.7%) Aspergillus fumigatus was cultured from sputum. CPA is an under-recognised problem in Vietnam and other high burden TB countries, requiring a different diagnostic approach and treatment and careful management. HRCT and Aspergillus IgG serum test are recommended as initial diagnostic tools for CPA diagnosis.Childhood dental caries and obesity are prevalent health problems. Results from previous studies of the caries-obesity relationship are conflicting. This study aimed to assess the association between anthropometric status and dental caries among schoolchildren, taking into account dietary habits, oral hygiene, and sociodemographic factors. This cross-sectional study recruited 569 children aged 6-12 years from five elementary schools in central Taiwan. Each child underwent an oral health examination and anthropometric measurements. The DMFT (decayed, missing due to caries, and filled permanent teeth) and deft (decayed, extracted, and filled primary teeth) indexes were calculated to record caries experience. A structured questionnaire was used to collect information on food intake frequency and other related factors. The World Health Organization’s reference data was applied to define weight status obese, overweight, and normal/underweight. The results showed that the mean (±standard deviation) deft and DMFT scores were 2.3 ± 2.6 and 0.7 ± 1.2, respectively, among participating children. The prevalence of obesity and overweight was 18.1% and 18.5%, respectively. After comprehensive evaluation of potential confounders, weight status was not an independent predictor of DMFT or deft scores in the negative binomial regression models. In conclusion, weight status was not associated with caries scores in primary or permanent teeth among 6-12 year-old schoolchildren.Herpes simplex virus (HSV) prevention is a global health priority but, despite decades of research, there is no effective vaccine. Prior efforts focused on generating glycoprotein D (gD) neutralizing antibodies, but clinical trial outcomes were disappointing. The deletion of gD yields a single-cycle candidate vaccine (∆gD-2) that elicits high titer polyantigenic non-gD antibodies that exhibit little complement-independent neutralization but mediate antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC) and phagocytosis (ADCP). Active or passive immunization with DgD-2 completely protects mice from lethal disease and latency following challenge with clinical isolates of either serotype. The current studies evaluated the role of complement in vaccine-elicited protection. The immune serum from the DgD-2 vaccinated mice exhibited significantly greater C1q binding compared to the serum from the gD protein vaccinated mice with infected cell lysates from either serotype as capture antigens. The C1q-binding antibodies recognized glycoprotein B. This resulted in significantly greater antibody-mediated complement-dependent cytolysis and neutralization. Notably, complete protection was preserved when the DgD-2 immune serum was passively transferred into C1q knockout mice, suggesting that ADCC and ADCP are sufficient in mice. We speculate that the polyfunctional responses elicited by DgD-2 may prove more effective in preventing HSV, compared to the more restrictive responses elicited by adjuvanted gD protein vaccines.Micro/nano structuring of KrF Excimer laser-irradiated Aluminum (Al) has been correlated with laser-produced structural and mechanical changes. The effect of non-reactive Argon (Ar) and reactive Oxygen (O2) environments on the surface, structural and mechanical characteristics of nano-second pulsed laser-ablated Aluminum (Al) has been revealed. KrF Excimer laser with pulse duration 20 ns, central wavelength of 248 nm and repetition rate of was utilized for this purpose. Exposure of targets has been carried out for 0.86, 1, 1.13 and 1.27 J·cm-2 laser fluences in non-reactive (Ar) and reactive (O2) ambient environments at a pressure of 100 torr. A variety of characteristics of the irradiated targets like the morphology of the surface, chemical composition, crystallinity and nano hardness were investigated by using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), X-ray Diffractometer (XRD), Raman spectroscopy and Nanohardness tester techniques, respectively. The nature (reactive or non-reactive) and pressure of gas played an important role in modification of materials. In this study, a strong correlation is observed between the surface structuring, chemical composition, residual stress variation and the variation in hardness of Al surface after ablation in both ambient (Ar, O2). In the case of reactive environment (O2), the interplay among the deposition of laser energy and species of plasma of ambient gas enhances chemical reactivity, which causes the formation of oxides of aluminum (AlO, Al2O3) with high mechanical strength. That makes it useful in the field of process and aerospace industry as well as in surface engineering.Anxiety disorders are associated with a failure to sufficiently extinguish fear memories. The serotonergic system (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) with the 5-HT transporter (5-HTT, SERT) is strongly implicated in the regulation of anxiety and fear. In the present study, we examined the effects of SERT deficiency on fear extinction in a differential fear conditioning paradigm in male and female rats. Fear-related behavior displayed during acquisition, extinction, and recovery, was measured through quantification of immobility and alarm 22-kHz ultrasonic vocalizations (USV). Trait-like inter-individual differences in novelty-seeking, anxiety-related behavior, habituation learning, cognitive performance, and pain sensitivity were examined for their predictive value in forecasting fear extinction. Our results show that SERT deficiency strongly affected the emission of 22-kHz USV during differential fear conditioning. During acquisition, extinction, and recovery, SERT deficiency consistently led to a reduction in 22-kHz USV emission. While SERT deficiency did not affect immobility during acquisition, genotype differences started to emerge during extinction, and during recovery rats lacking SERT showed higher levels of immobility than wildtype littermate controls. Recovery was reflected in increased levels of immobility but not 22-kHz USV emission. Prominent sex differences were evident. Among several measures for trait-like inter-individual differences, anxiety-related behavior had the best predictive quality.Drug resistance is one of the major hurdles in the success of cancer chemotherapy. Notably, aberrantly expressed Wnt/β-catenin signaling plays a major role in the initiation and maintenance of oncogenesis along with development of chemoresistance. Therefore, the combinatorial approach of targeting Wnt/β-catenin pathway along with using a chemotherapeutic agent seems to be a promising strategy to improve cancer therapy. In the present study, we evaluated the combination of niclosamide (Nic), an FDA-approved antihelminthic drug repurposed as a Wnt signaling inhibitor, and doxorubicin (Dox), a conventional anticancer agent, in all clinical subtypes of breast cancer viz. triple negative breast cancer, HER2 positive breast cancer, and hormone receptor positive breast cancer. The results demonstrated that the combination induced apoptosis and caused synergistically enhanced death of all breast cancer cell types at multiple combinatorial concentrations using both the sequential and concurrent treatment regimens. Mechanistically, downregulation of Wnt/β-catenin signaling and cell cycle arrest at G0/G1 phase by Nic and increase in reactive oxygen species by both Nic and Dox along with the inherent cytotoxicity of Dox mediated the synergism between the two drugs in both the treatment regimens. Overall, the combination of Nic and Dox holds promise to be developed as an efficient therapeutic option for breast cancer irrespective of its clinical subtype.
