    7 kg were found to be at highest risk for FAT. Our study shows that the incidence of FAT may be underestimated without a monitoring program. Small infants and coarctation interventions requiring larger sheaths or sheath exchanges are at highest risk for FAT.The aim of this study was to explore the potential value of autoantibody to epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in the diagnosis of lung cancer (LC) and its relation with EGFR mutations. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to detect the level of autoantibody to EGFR in sera from 254 LC patients and 222 normal controls (NCs). Besides, the mRNA and protein levels of EGFR were investigated in Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) and Human Protein Atlas (HPA) database, respectively. The level of autoantibody to EGFR (anti-EGFR) in LC even different types of LC was obviously higher than that in NC (P 0.05). The study confirmed that anti-EGFR could be a potential biomarker for LC diagnosis; additionally, it could improve the diagnostic value of CEA in clinical work.

    The aim was to identify the scope of the epidemiology literature reviewed regarding the risk of cancer as related to occupational exposure to pesticides and to compare regulatory toxicity results where feasible.

Epidemiology observations were first assessed and then compared against carcinogenicity profiles derived from regulatory toxicology studies.

    Several active ingredients were associated with specific cancer but overall, there was neither strong nor consistent epidemiologic data supportive of a positive association between pesticide exposure in occupational settings and cancer. Authors noted common themes related to the heterogeneity of exposure, study design, control for confounders, and the challenge to collect these data reliably and validly with an adequate sample size. Toxicology studies in laboratory animals that assessed carcinogenic potential did not reveal cancer outcomes that were concordant with reported epidemiologic findings.

    Farming and pesticides represent diverse exposures that are difficult to quantify in epidemiologic studies. Going forward, investigators will need creative and novel approaches for exposure assessment. Integration of epidemiologic and toxicological studies with attention to biological plausibility, mode of toxicological action and relevance to humans will increase the ability to better assess associations between pesticides and cancer.

    Treating osteoarthritis in elderly patients with THA is very successful. However, surgeons hesitate to recommend THA in younger patients. The spectrum of etiologies for end stage hip disease in the younger population is diverse and therefore different courses may be assumed. Our objective was to evaluate THA revision rate within a minimum follow-up period of 10years in young patients and to analyze the difference between different primary diagnoses.

    We included 144 consecutive hips in 127 patients younger than 40years, who received a primary THA from 01/1996 to 12/2007. Operative reports, clinical and radiographic documentation were reviewed to determine primary diagnosis, prior hip surgery, component specifications and revision surgery. 111 hips in 97 patients were available for outcome analysis with a minimum follow-up of 10years.

    The mean age was 33years (range 15-40years) at the time of the index THA, 68 patients were female and 59 were male. Tenyears revision rate on the prosthetic components was 13%. The most common primary diagnosis was DDH. Amenamevir inhibitor DDH was associated with a risk of 17% for requiring a reoperation on the prosthetic components because of mechanical fatigue and therefore, significantly higher than for any other primary diagnosis (pā€‰=ā€‰0.005).

    Portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT) and microvascular invasion (MVI) are types of intrahepatic vascular metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and are highly correlated with poor prognosis. However, the underlying biomarkers of PVTT and MVI are unclear.

    We identified a PVTT/MVI-associated gene S100P by cDNA microarray analysis, and assess the potential value of serum S100P measurement in the differential diagnosis of HCC and prediction of MVI status with large retrospective and perspective cohort studies.

    The mRNA and protein of S100P was increased in HCCs with PVTT or MVI. High S100P immunostaining in tumors was correlated with inferior tumor-free survival. Serum S100P values discriminated patients with HCCs from those with benign liver tumors, and it showed predictive potential of MVI status in both retrospective and perspective cohorts. S100P may regulate HCC tumorigenicity and invasive ability; S100P also was associated with up-regulation of CD44, which may mediate HCC cell adhesion to form PVTT/MVI.

    Serum S100P may be a novel differential diagnostic marker for HCC and a potential predictor of MVI status pre-surgery for HCC patients. S100P overexpression in HCC is highly correlated with the formation of PVTT and MVI, which may make S100P as a potential therapeutic target for HCC metastasis.
