    The major barriers to mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are a low extent of tissue regeneration and insufficient immunomodulation after cell transplantation. In addition, the role of C-X-C chemokine receptor type 7 (CXCR7) and its mechanism of action in MSC-mediated osteogenic or chondrogenic differentiation and immunomodulation are unclear.

    Gain of CXCR7 function on human MSCs was carried out by lentiviral vector-mediated CXCR7 overexpression or CXCR7 agonist, TC14012. These cells were determined the role and potential mechanisms for CXCR7-regulated MSC differentiation and immunomodulation using cellular and molecular assays. The therapeutic benefits in RA were investigated in rats with collagen-induced arthritis (CIA).

    CXCR7 was upregulated in MSCs during the induction of osteogenic or chondrogenic differentiation. Blockage of CXCR7 function inhibited osteogenic or chondrogenic differentiation of MSCs whereas gain of CXCR7 function had the opposite effects. Besides, MSCsondrogenic differentiation of MSCs and MSC-mediated immunomodulation by regulating several signaling pathways and anti-inflammatory soluble factors. MSCs with CXCR7 gain-of-function significantly ameliorate arthritic symptoms in a CIA model.

    To date, there is no clearly defined association between plasma selenium levels and first stroke. We aimed to investigate the association between baseline plasma selenium and first stroke risk in a community-based Chinese population.

    Using a nested case-control study design, a total of 1255 first stroke cases and 1255 matched controls were analyzed. Participant plasma selenium concentrations were measured by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS), and the association of plasma selenium with first stroke risk was estimated by conditional logistic regression models.

    Overall, a non-linear negative association between plasma selenium and first total stroke and first ischemic stroke risks was found in males but not in females. Compared with participants with lower selenium levels (tertile 1-2, < 94.1 ng/mL), participants with higher selenium levels (tertile 3, ≥ 94.1 ng/mL) had significantly lower risks of first total stroke (OR 0.63; 95% CI 0.48, 0.83) and first ischemic stroke (OR 0.61; 95% CI 0.45, 0.83) in males but not in females with first total stroke (OR 0.92; 95% CI 0.69, 1.22) and first ischemic stroke (OR 0.89; 95% CI 0.65, 1.22). Furthermore, a stronger association between plasma selenium and first total stroke was found in males with higher vitamin E levels (≥ 13.5 μg/mL vs. < 13.5 μg/mL P-interaction = 0.007). No significant association was observed between plasma selenium and first hemorrhagic stroke risk in either males or females.

    With the current SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, many healthcare facilities are lacking a steady supply of masks worldwide. This emergency situation warrants the taking of extraordinary measures to minimize the negative health impact from an insufficient supply of masks. The decontamination, and reuse of healthcare workers’ N95/FFP2 masks is a promising solution which needs to overcome several pitfalls to become a reality.

    The overall aim of this article is to provide the reader with a quick overview of the various methods for decontamination and the potential issues to be taken into account when deciding to reuse masks.     Mesenchymal stem cells including adipose-derived stem cells (ASCs) have a considerable potential in the field of translational medicine. Unfortunately, multiple factors (e.g., older age, co-existing diabetes, and obesity) may impair cellular function, which hinders the overall effectiveness of autologous stem cell therapy. Noncoding RNAs-including microRNAs (miRNAs), long ncRNAs (lncRNAs), and circular RNAs (circRNAs)-have been shown to play important roles in stem cell biology. However, the overall diabetes-related and aging-related expression patterns and interactions of these RNAs in ASCs remain unknown.

    The phenotypes and functions of ASCs isolated from diabetic (D-ASCs), old (O-ASCs), and young (Y-ASCs) donors were evaluated by in vitro assays. We conducted high-throughput RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) in these ASCs to identify the differentially expressed (DE) RNAs. Gene ontology (GO), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway, and protein-protein interaction (PPI) analyses were performed to. Additionally, the lncRNA RAET1E-AS1-miR-145-5p-WNT11/BMPER axis was validated by PCR and correlation analyses. Finally, the overexpression of miR-145-5p was found to rejuvenate O-ASCs phenotype and augment the functionality of these cells.

    Our research may provide insights regarding the underlying mechanisms of ASC dysfunction; it may also offer novel targets for restoring therapeutic properties in ASCs.

However, the biological function of MVD gene remains largely unknown. Therefore, we analyzed the function ofmvda gene, orthologous to the human MVD gene, indevelopingzebrafish.
