Sources of multidrug-resistant bacteria include hospital, municipal and slaughterhouse wastewaters. In this study, bacteria with resistance to 3rd generation cephalosporins were isolated from all three wastewater biotopes, including a maximum care hospital, municipal wastewaters collected separately from a city and small rural towns and the wastewaters of two pig and two poultry slaughterhouses. The resistance profiles of all isolates against clinically relevant antibiotics (including β-lactams like carbapenems, the quinolone ciprofloxacin, colistin, and trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole) were determined at the same laboratory. The bacteria were classified according to their risk to human health using clinical criteria, with an emphasis on producers of carbapenemases, since carbapenems are prescribed for hospitalized patients with infections with multi-drug resistant bacteria. The results showed that bacteria thaould be isolated. Watershed-scale models have been used as a support tool to understand the sources, fate and transport of fecal bacteria and pathogens in the environment. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model was applied in this study to understand the sources and drivers of microbial water quality in the Clouds Creek watershed in Georgia, USA. A criterion to evaluate the performance of the SWAT bacterial model was also developed in this study using the Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) performance measure. The SWAT model was successfully calibrated and validated for flow with Nash-Sutcliffe Efficiency (NSE) of 0.81 and 0.55, respectively. Therefore, a pilot-scale hybrid NWT system consisting of gravel filtration (GF), sedimentation pond (SP), gravel filtration-free water surface constructed wetland (GF-FWSCW), and gravel filtration-overland flow (GF-OF) was installed in order to prevent contamination in a stream (Nigde stream) that feeds and pollutes surface water source (Akkaya lake). The pilot-scale system was installed on a new 60 m-long channel which was located off the stream. Changes in ammonium (NH4+-N), organic nitrogen (Norg.), total nitrogen (TN), and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) concentrations was routinely monitored in influent and effluent of all stages of the hybrid NWT system and the bottom sediment of the SP over a one-year operation period. According to the study results, while NH4+-N plus Norg. link2 was reduced by an average of 75% (from 49,1 mg L-1 to 7,1 mg L-1), TN was reduced by an average of 85% (from 50,2 mg L-1 to 12,4 mg L-1). Colder seasons and higher hydraulic loading rates (HLRs) negatively affected nitrogen removal efficiency of the pilot-system. The use of vegetation and filter medium had a positive effect on the average removal efficiencies. link3 The results showed that nitrogen pollution in polluted streams could be greatly reduced by establishing a NWT system in series within them.The present study examines how toddler emotions may influence their own or their parents’ participation in parent-toddler verbal conversation. Limited, indirect evidence suggests that toddler positive emotions may encourage, whereas negative emotions may disrupt, parent-toddler verbal exchanges, but these hypotheses have not been tested directly. We investigated two aspects of toddler emotions- their emotion expressions and their emotional traits- and examined their relations with parent-toddler verbal conversation engagement. In a sample of families with 18-month-olds (N = 120), we used live, unstructured home observations of toddler emotion expressions and spontaneous parent-toddler verbalizations, and collected parent ratings of toddler temperament. We found that less surgent toddlers who expressed more frequent negative emotion attempted fewer verbalizations. Among all toddlers, those expressing positive emotion received more frequent parent verbal responses, and, unexpectedly, more failed parent attempts to engage their toddler in conversation. Parent-initiated conversation was unrelated to toddler emotion expressions or emotional traits. We discuss how best to integrate the study of early emotional and language development from a transactional perspective.

    Affective psychosis is a common mental disorder characterized by structural/functional brain abnormalities, which seem to occur also at the early stages of the disease. However, the role of psychotropic medications on brain structure and function in affective first episode psychosis (A-FEP) still remains uncertain. Therefore, with this review we aim to gain more robust understanding regarding the potential effect of pharmacological treatments on the brain in A-FEP patients also experiencing a first manic episode.

    A search on PuBMed and Web of Science of longitudinal structural and functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as well as Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) studies, exploring the effect of medications on the brain in A-FEP, was conducted. We selected nine studies, three randomized or pseudo-randomized controlled trials and six observational studies.

    Overall the studies showed that a) mood stabilizers (MS) have no effect on gray matter (GM) volumes and a protective role on white matter (WM) volumes, b) antipsychotics (AP) have an unclear effect on GM volumes and a less potent effect on WM volumes compared to MS and c) both MS and AP tend to normalize brain activation and connectivity.

    The small sample size, the observational design of the majority of the studies and the different methodological approaches limit the conclusion of this review.

    Suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in the United States. Several studies have leveraged electronic health record (EHR) data to predict suicide risk in veteran and military samples; however, few studies have investigated suicide risk factors in a large-scale community health population.

    Clinical data was queried for 9,811 patients from the Penn Medicine Health System who had completed a Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) documented in the EHR between January 2017 and June 2019. Patient demographics, PHQ-9 scores, and psychiatric comorbidities were extracted from the EHR. Univariate and multivariable logistic regressions were applied to determine significant risk factors associated with suicide ideation responses from the PHQ-9.

    One-quarter (25.8%% of patients endorsed suicide ideation. Univariate analysis found 22 risk factors of suicide ideation. Multivariable logistic regression found significant positive associations (Odds Ratio, (95% Confidence Interval)) with the following younger ages less than 18 years 2.1, (1.69, 2.60) and 19-24 years 1.55, (1.29, 1.87)), single marital status (1.22, (1.08, 1.38)), African American (1.22, (1.08, 1.38)), non-commercial insurance (1.16, (1.03, 1.31)), multiple comorbidities (1 comorbidity (1.65, (1.32, 2.07); 2 comorbidities (2.07, (1.61, 2.64)), 3+ comorbidities (2.49, (1.87, 3.33))), bipolar disorders (Type I 1.38, (1.14, 1.67) and Type II 1.94, (1.52, 2.49)), depressive disorders (1.70, (1.49, 1.94)), obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) (1.43, (1.08, 1.90)), and stress disorders (1.53, (1.33, 1.76)).

    Medical diseases and depression frequently co-occur, but it remains uncertain whether specific medical diseases or the disease load, affect the clinical course of depression.

    We identified all adults (≥18 years) at their first hospital-based diagnosis of unipolar depression in Denmark between 1996 and 2015. All medical hospital contacts since 1977 and all drug prescriptions during the previous year were identified. We followed patients for up to five years regarding hospital admissions with depression and performed adjusted Cox regression analyses calculating hazard rate ratios (HRR) including 95%-confidence intervals (CI) to test the association between medical diseases and depression admission following the index depressive episode.
