    Agroecosystems are the largest human-natural coupled production system covering ~40% of the planet earth and provide essential ecosystem services for a good quality of life and human wellbeing. The sustainable management of agroecosystems are therefore essential for meeting the food, fuel, fiber, and fodder demands of the rapidly growing human population. Agroecosystems also play a key role in trace gases emission, and also affect the quality and usage of life-supporting resources such as air, water, soil etc. Though the sustainable management of agroecosystems are imperative for achieving UN-Sustainable Development Goals, they are frequently under degradation due to multiple drivers of changes such as unsustainable land-use practices, biodiversity loss, pollution and climate change, etc. Therefore, cordial efforts at national, regional and global levels are essential for managing agroecosystems to meet out the global goals and also the targets of the United Nations- Decade o-n Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030). Here we opined various strategies for restoring degraded agroecosystems for sustainable development including the adoption of emerging paradigms such as micro-agriculture, urban agriculture, and landless agriculture for averting the mounting pressure on agroecosystems for the benefit of both people and the planet.The 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has become a global pandemic. Several studies report that ABO blood group polymorphism may be related to COVID-19 susceptibility and clinical outcomes; however, the results are controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate whether ABO blood groups are associated with increased COVID-19 morbidity and mortality. A total of 715 articles were retrieved from seven databases. Ten articles were selected for meta-analysis after removal of duplicates and two levels of screenings. Overall, individuals with blood group A [odds ratio (OR) = 1.33, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.14 to 1.56] and B (OR = 1.06, 95% CI 1.00 to 1.13) had a substantially higher risk of COVID-19, whereas this was not the case for blood group AB (OR = 1.07, 95% CI 0.88 to 1.30). Individuals with blood group O was not prone to develop the disease (OR = 0.71, 95% CI 0.60 to 0.84). Moreover, the risk of COVID-19 was significantly associated with the Rh-positive blood group (OR = 1.22, 95% CI 0.99 to 1.50). A meta-analysis of 5 studies suggested that blood group A was associated with a significantly increased risk of COVID-19 mortality (OR = 1.25, 95% CI 1.02 to 1.52). Mild publication bias was found in the included studies. This systematic review and meta-analysis indicated that blood groups A and B may be risk factors for COVID-19, whereas the blood group O appears to be protective. Blood group A may be related to unfavourable outcomes. Further rigorous and high-quality research evidence is needed to confirm this association.When evaluating pediatric patients with hyperpigmented lesions on the plantar aspect of the feet, the differential diagnosis should include talon noir, acral melanoma, and verruca with thrombosis. Talon noir are asymptomatic brown-black pigmented macules formed by intraepidermal hemorrhages of the feet caused by shear-force injury. Spontaneous resolution of talon noir typically occurs within 2-3 weeks. Clinicians should ensure that their patients who participate in sports have appropriately fitting shoes, which may prevent these lesions from occurring. SCR7 cost This case report highlights a unique case of talon noir occurring in a young baseball player with an atypical distribution of plantar macules.The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in stay-at-home orders, which presented a significant challenge to the design and operation of an essential harm-reduction strategy in the opioid epidemic community-based, take-home naloxone (THN) programs. This commentary describes how four rural and/or Appalachian communities quickly pivoted their existing THN programs to respond to community need. These pivots, which reflect both the context of each community and the capacities of its service delivery and technology platforms, resulted in enhancements to THN training and distribution that have maintained or expanded the reach of their efforts. Additionally, all four community pivots are both highly sustainable and transferrable to other communities planning to or currently implementing THN training and distribution programs.

    How does follicle distribution evolve in the human ovarian cortex between the ages of 20 and 35 years?

    Fragments of ovarian cortex from women undergoing unilateral oophorectomy for fertility preservation were obtained for quantitative histological assessment, including recording the two-dimensional coordinates of the follicles. Data were analysed using spatial statistical methods.

    A total of 53 ovarian cortex tissue samples, containing 1-803 follicles each, were obtained from 14 women aged 20-35 years. Primordial and transitory follicles lay in a clustered manner in the human ovarian cortex, with an average cluster radius of around 270µm (95% confidence interval 154-377µm; n = 49). Follicle density declined with age (P = 0.006, n = 13), and the distance from the nearest neighbouring follicle increased (P = 0.004, n = 13). Cluster radius decreased with age (P = 0.02, n = 13), but the degree of clustering tended to increase (P = 0.11, n = 13). In the majority of the samples, follicles at different stages lay in different clusters (P<0.05, n = 13).

    This study shows that primordial and transitory follicles lie in different clusters in the human ovarian cortex. Spatio-temporal computer simulation suggests that interfollicular signals may hinder follicle loss and may therefore drive clustered follicle distribution. In clinical practice, the woman’s age should be taken into account when assessing follicle density, as follicle distribution is increasingly clustered with advancing age.
