RGB (red, green, and blue) pixel brightness quantifies colors, which is relatively objective. Limited studies have combined LCI images with RGB to help screen for early gastric cancer (EGC). We aimed to evaluate the RGB pixel brightness characteristics of EGC and noncancer areas in LCI images. Methods We retrospectively reviewed early gastric cancer (EGC) patients and LCI images. All pictures were evaluated by at least two endoscopic physicians. RGB pixel brightness analysis of LCI images was performed in MATLAB software to compare the cancer with noncancer areas. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was analyzed for sensitivity, specificity, cut-off, and area under the curve (AUC). Results Overall, 38 early gastric cancer patients were enrolled with 38 LCI images. Pixel brightness of red, green, and blue in cancer was remarkably higher than those in noncancer areas (190.24 ± 37.10 vs. 160.00 ± 40.35, p 0.05). Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve for differentiating cancer from noncancer was calculated. The maximum area under the curve (AUC) was 0.767 in B/G, with a sensitivity of 0.605, a specificity of 0.921, and a cut-off of 0.97. Conclusions RGB pixel brightness was useful and more objective in distinguishing early gastric cancer for LCI images. Copyright © 2020 Xue Sun and Li Zhao.Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted in consecutive newly diagnosed patients with inflammatory bowel disease in a tertiary care referral center. The initial evaluation included patient-reported outcome for stool frequency subscore and rectal bleeding. Endoscopic activity was determined using the Mayo scoring system for ulcerative colitis and the Simple Endoscopic Score for Crohn’s disease. Histopathological activity was assessed using a validated numeric scoring system. Results We included 159 patients (63 Crohn’s disease with colonic involvement and 96 with ulcerative colitis). We found significant correlation between the Mayo endoscopic subscoring system and histology activity in ulcerative colitis, while no correlation was found in patients with Crohn’s disease. Patient-reported outcome showed inverse correlation with endoscopic and histological activity in Crohn’s disease (r s = -0.67; r s = -0.72), while positive correlation was found in ulcerative colitis (r s = 0.84; r s = 0.75). Interpretation and Conclusions. Patient-reported outcome is a practical and noninvasive tool for assessment of disease activity in ulcerative colitis patients but not in Crohn’s disease. cis-diamminedichloroplatinum II Copyright © 2020 Sanja Dragasevic et al.The state-of-the-science Community Multiscale Air Quality (CMAQ) modeling system, which has recently been extended for hemispheric-scale modeling applications (referred to as H-CMAQ), is applied to study the trans-Pacific transport, a phenomenon recognized as a potential source of air pollution in the US, during April 2010. The results of this analysis are presented in two parts. In the previous paper (Part 1), model evaluation for tropospheric ozone (O3) was presented and an air mass characterization method was developed. Results from applying this newly established method pointed to the importance of emissions as the factor to enhance the surface O3 mixing ratio over the US. In this subsequent paper (Part 2), emission impacts are examined based on mathematically rigorous sensitivity analysis using the higher-order decoupled direct method (HDDM) implemented in H-CMAQ. The HDDM sensitivity coefficients indicate the presence of a NO x -sensitive regime during April 2010 over most of the Northern Hemisphere. By results reveal the significant impacts of emissions from east Asia on the free troposphere (defined as 750 to 250hPa) over the US (impacts of more than 5ppbv) and the dominance of stratospheric air mass on upper model layer (defined as 250 to 50hPa) over the US (impacts greater than 10ppbv). Finally, we estimate changes of trans-Pacific transport by taking into account recent emission trends from 2010 to 2015 assuming the same meteorological condition. The analysis suggests that the impact of recent emission changes on changes in the contribution of trans-Pacific transport to US O3 levels was insignificant at the surface level and was small (less than 1ppbv) over the free troposphere.Stratospheric intrusion and trans-Pacific transport have been recognized as a potential source of tropospheric ozone over the US. In this Part 1 paper, model evaluation for tropospheric ozone (O3) is presented. Observations at the surface, by ozonesondes and airplane, and by satellite across the Northern Hemisphere are used to evaluate the model performance for O3. H-CMAQ is able to capture surface and boundary layer (defined as surface to 750hPa) O3 with a normalized mean bias (NMB) of -10%; however, a systematic underestimation with an NMB up to -30% is found in the free troposphere (defined as 750-250hPa). In addition, a new air mass characterization method is devass characterization technique, this study can contribute to understanding the role of STT and also the implied importance of emissions leading to high surface O3. Further research focused on emissions is discussed in a subsequent paper (Part 2).Recent discoveries have led to the development of novel ideas and techniques that have helped elucidate the correlation between epigenetics and tumor biology. Nowadays, the field of tumor genetics has evolved to include a new type of regulation by epigenetics. An increasing number of studies have demonstrated the importance of DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation in specific genes in the progression of cervical cancer. Determining the methylation and hydroxymethylation profiles of these genes will help in the early prevention and diagnosis, monitoring recurrence, prognosis, and treatment of patients with cervical cancer. In this review, we focus on the significance of aberrant DNA methylation and hydroxymethylation in cervical cancer and the use of these epigenetic signatures in clinical settings.
