The PVF4 phage-dAb allowed detection of pistachio in a food matrix with a limit of detection (LOD) of 3983 mg kg-1 in an indirect phage-enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The ELISA method developed was used to assess applicability of the PVF4 phage-dAb for analysis of 77 commercial food products.Alkylated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are abundant in crude oils and refined petroleum products and are considered as major contributors to the toxicity of spilled oils. In this study, the microbial degradation of model (alkylated) PAHs (i.e., phenanthrene, 3-methylphenanthrene, 3,6-dimethylphenanthrene (36DMPhe), pyrene, and 1-methylpyrene (1MP)) by the bacterium Sphingobium quisquiliarum EPA505, a known degrader of PAHs, was studied. To evaluate the toxic potential of the metabolic products, reaction mixtures containing metabolites of 36DMPhe and 1MP were fractionated by high-performance liquid chromatography, and their effects on the luminescence inhibition of Aliivibrio fischeri were evaluated. Although the luminescence inhibition of 36DMPhe and 1MP at their solubility levels was not observed, inhibition was observed in their metabolite fractions at the solubility limit of their parent molecule. This indicates that initial biotransformation increases the toxicity of alkylated PAHs because of the increased solubility and/or inherent toxicity of metabolites. Qualitative analysis of the metabolite fractions suggested that mono-oxidation of the methyl group is the main metabolic pathway of 36DMPhe and 1MP.This Special Issue of Cancers, made up of nine articles (four original papers, four reviews, and a brief report), is dedicated to chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) […].Steel slag partially substituted by zeolite (SZ) was beneficial for improving the compressive strength and carbonation degree of SZ specimens after a combined curing (hydration and then carbonation) process due to pozzolanic reaction between them. By previous work results, the zeolitic substitution ratios of 5 wt.% and 15 wt.% in steel slag specimens (SZ5 and SZ15) gained the optimum compressive strength and carbonation degree, respectively, after 1 day hydration and then 2 h carbonation. This study investigated the effect of previous hydration time (1, 3, 7, 14, and 196 days) on carbonation degree and strength of SZ specimens after subsequent carbonation curing. Two zeolitic substitution ratios (5 wt.% and 15 wt.%) were selected and pure steel slag specimens were also prepared as controls. Compressive strength results revealed that the optimum hydration curing time was 1 day and the optimum zeolitic substitution ratio was 5 wt.%. The pozzolanic reaction happened in SZ specimens was divided into early and late pozzolanic reaction. In the late hydration, a new mineral, monocarboaluminate (AFmc) was produced in SZ15 specimens, modifying the carbonation degree and strength further. And the mechanism of pozzolanic reaction in early and late hydration in SZ specimens was explained by several microscopic test methods. In support of a comprehensive update to the checklist of the moths of North America, we attempt to determine the status of 151 species of Tortricidae present in North America that may be Holarctic, introduced, or sibling species of their European counterparts. Discovering the natural distributions of these taxa is often difficult, if not impossible, but several criteria can be applied to determine if a species that is present in both Europe and North America is natively Holarctic, introduced, or represented by different but closely related species on each continent. We use DNA barcodes (when available), morphology, host plants, and historical records (literature and museum specimens) to make these assessments and propose several taxonomic changes, as well as future areas of research. The following taxa are raised from synonymy to species status Acleris ferrumixtana (Benander, 1934), stat. rev.; Acleris viburnana (Clemens, 1860), stat. rev.; Acleris pulverosana (Walker, 1863), stat. rev.; Acleris placidana (Robinson, 1869), stat. rev.; Lobesia spiraeae (McDunnough, 1938), stat. rev.; and Epiblema arctica Miller, 1985, stat. rev. ML-SI3 datasheet Cydia saltitans (Westwood, 1858), stat. rev., is determined to be the valid name for the “jumping bean moth,” and Phiaris glaciana (Möschler, 1860), comb. n., is placed in a new genus. We determine that the number of Holarctic species has been overestimated by at least 20% in the past, and that the overall number of introduced species in North America is unexpectedly high, with Tortricidae accounting for approximately 23-30% of the total number of Lepidoptera species introduced to North America. An environmentally friendly and efficient polymer coating method for micro-sized particles was developed using supercritical CO2. Because this method used supercritical CO2 as the solvent to dissolve the coating material, we avoided environmental pollution from organic solvents, saved the energy required to evaporate/remove organic solvents, realized a uniform coating film on the fine particles, and prevented agglomeration of the coating particles. The solubilities of the five silicone resins used as coating materials were measured using the flow method, and the data were well correlated by Chrastil’s equation with an average deviation of 5.7%. Resins comprising numerous methyl-group side chains exhibited high solubilities and were suitable coating materials. A new semi-flow-type coating method using supercritical CO2 was also developed, which deposited a film with a uniform thickness of 0.2-1.3 μm on whole fine particles. Notably, in this method, the film thickness was easily controlled. A simple and rapid technique was developed for measuring the coating thickness using X-ray fluorescence analysis. The model for calculating the coating film thickness was based on the material balance of the coating material. This model satisfactorily predicted the thickness with an average error of 0.085 μm by measuring the solubility of the coating material in supercritical CO2, integrated flow volume of supercritical CO2, particle diameter, density and charged weight of the fine particle, and coating material density.
