    Most models reported low predictive success and inability to externally validate. Both candidate and final predictor variables were inconsistent between studies.     Recurrence rates of keloids have generally been reported at one time point. However, the longer the duration after treatment, the greater the likelihood that such lesions will recur. In this study, we analysed the time to recurrence during long-term follow-up.

    We retrospectively reviewed recurrence-free interval in 52 patients with keloid (age 8-79 years) who had been treated between June 2006 and January 2011 using a standardised protocol developed by our group.

    Mean duration of follow-up was 37.5 (range, 7-120) months in patients with keloid. Kaplan-Meier survival curves revealed a statistically significant difference in recurrence-free interval between ear keloids and keloids excluding ear keloids.     Control of laryngeal muscles is required to manipulate pitch, volume, and voice quality. False vocal fold activity (FVFA) refers to the constriction and release of constriction of the false vocal folds. True vocal fold mass (TVFM) represents the cross-sectional thickness of the vocal folds. Larynx height (LH) refers to the vertical position of the larynx in the neck. To date, studies of voice control have examined the effects of these parameters separately. No study has investigated the impact of instructed systematic manipulation of these parameters on acoustic voice measures in vocally healthy trained subjects.

    This study examined the effects of systematically manipulating FVFA, TVFM, and LH on several acoustic voice measures.

    Twelve vocally trained speakers were instructed to use specific techniques to achieve experimental conditions of constriction and release of constriction of FVFA, thicker and thinner TVFM, and normal and low LH. Each condition was implemented in combination with manipulating theacoustic effects without measurable interaction. Release of constriction of FVFA, thicker TVFM, and low LH were configurations that resulted in more optimal acoustic signals.

    Twelve healthy Carnatic classical singers participated in the vocal loading experiment for 2 days, referred to as no-treatment and treatment conditions. The vocal loading task consisted of 1 hour of continuous singing in the presence of background noise. For the treatment condition, the participants followed a 10-minute straw phonation in water exercises before the vocal loading task. Acoustic, electroglottographic, and self-rated perceptual voice measures were recorded before and after the vocal loading task on both days.

    Pretest and posttest comparison of various outcome measures during no-treatment day suggested a significant increase in shimmer percent, decrease in maximum phonation duration of vowel /a/, and increase in perceived phonatory effort, perceived vocal effort, and Evaluation of Ability to Sing Easily scores. Pretest and posttest comparisons during treatment day showed a significant increase in Mean F0, Highest F0, and Lowest F0, perceived phonatory effort, and perceived vocal effort scores. However, changes in Mean F0, Highest F0, and Lowest F0 measures were small in the posttest condition compared to pretest.

    The present results suggest that vocal loading did induce changes in Carnatic classical singers’ voices.     Choir singing is an activity that engages individuals all over the world with a broad demographic representation. Both qualitative and quantitative studies have examined the benefits of the activity but very few have examined the effects when someone loses access to it and stops singing.

    Examining the governmental and organisational responses precipitated by the COVID-19 pandemic, we asked what happens when a choir singer loses all of their routines associated with regular participation in choir singing.

    One national choir organization in Sweden (n=3163) and one in Norway (n=1881) were approached with a short survey. This comprised questions relating to the issue “what do you as a choir singer misses the most?” Each participant was asked to rate the importance of a number of elements that pertain to the experience of choir singing.

    The social aspect of singing emerged as having the strongest weight in terms of perceived loss that is, it was the element that the participants missed the most. Professional singers report that they miss the aesthetic experiences, flow, and all the physical aspects (physical training, voice training, and breathing training) to a greater degree as compared to reports from the amateurs. The importance of aesthetic experiences and physical components appeared to rise with increasing number of years that an individual had engaged with choir singing.

Yet, T cells that are chronically exposed to tumor antigen during cancer progression can become dysfunctional/exhausted and fail to induce tumor destruction. Such tumor-induced T cell dysfunction may occur via multiple mechanisms. In particular, immune checkpoint inhibitory receptors that are upregulated by tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes in many cancers limit T cell survival and function. Overcoming this inhibitory receptor-mediated T cell dysfunction has been a central focus of recent developments in cancer immunotherapy. Immunotherapies targeting inhibitory receptor pathways such as programmed cell death 1 (PD-1)/programmed death ligand 1 and cytotoxic T lymphocyte-associated antigen 4 (CTLA-4), alone or in combination, confer significant clinical benefits in multiple tumor types. However, many patients with cancer do not respond to immune checkpoint blockade, and dual PD-1/CTLA-4 blockade may cause serious adverse events, which limits its indications.
