Structural equation modeling was utilized to assess the hypotheses. The findings of the two studies showed a significant association between child abuse and pain personification. Whereas PTS symptoms did not mediate this link (Study 1), DSO symptoms mediated this association (Study 2). The findings of these studies support the understanding that the experience of interpersonal violence is engraved in the experience of the body, as reflected in abusive chronic pain personification. Disturbances in self-organization seem to underlie this process, thus pertaining to the link between the experience of the body, self, and interpersonal trauma.Despite the growing proportion of older adults in the United States, federal and state funding for nonmedical supportive services remains limited. To meet increasing demand, some communities across the nation are exploring alternative funding sources for aging services. Although no systematic database exists to track such local programs, through an array of data sources including a national survey, telephone contacts, and a web review, we identified 15 states that are using local funding to support aging services. Communities are using a variety of local revenue streams, such as property tax levies, payroll, and sales taxes to provide services for older adults and/or their family or friend caregivers. There are considerable differences in community approaches including the following amount of revenue generated, service eligibility criterion, type of services covered, and management infrastructure. Critical policy questions surrounding equity issues within and across states are raised as communities create these alternative funding mechanisms. The goal of this study was to define the functional role of adipocyte-specific expression of the RNA binding protein Human antigen R (HuR). Mice with an adipocyte-specific deletion of HuR (Adipo-HuR-/- ) were generated by crossing HuR floxed (HuRfl/fl ) mice with mice expressing adiponectin-driven cre-recombinase (Adipoq-cre). Our results show that Adipo-HuR-/- mice display a lean phenotype compared to wild-type littermate controls. HuR deletion results in a diet-independent reduction in percent body fat composition along with an increase in energy expenditure. Functionally, Adipo-HuR-/- mice show a significant impairment in acute adaptive thermogenesis (six hours at 4°C), but uncoupling protein 1 (UCP1) protein expression in brown adipose tissue (BAT) is unchanged compared to control. Pharmacological inhibition of HuR also results in a marked decline in core body temperature following acute cold challenge independent of UCP1 protein expression. Among the 588 HuR-dependent genes in BAT identified by RNA-seq analysis, gene ontology analysis shows a significant enrichment in mediators of calcium transport and signalling, almost all of which are decreased in Adipo-HuR-/- mice compared to control. In conclusion, adipocyte expression of HuR plays a central role in metabolic homoeostasis and mediates UCP1-independent thermogenesis in BAT, potentially through post-transcriptional control of intracellular calcium transport.Abbreviations Adipo-HuR-/- Adipocyte-specific HuR deletion mice; BAT Brown adipose tissue; HuR Human antigen R; UCP1 Uncoupling protein 1.

To determine if Angelman syndrome patients with sleep complaints have an increased risk of iron deficiency, and if iron therapy improves their sleep difficulties.

About two-thirds of Angelman syndrome patients experience sleep difficulties, which are likely multifactorial. Because iron deficiency can contribute toward restlessness in sleep, we investigated whether it might be a contributing factor in this special population.

This retrospective study involved medical record review of Angelman syndrome patients <18 years old who had attended our multidisciplinary Angelman syndrome clinic and had sleep complaints. Serum ferritin levels were compared to age- and sex-matched controls. Sleep history and nocturnal polysomnogram findings of the Angelman syndrome patients were also characterized.

Nineteen Angelman syndrome patients (9 female, mean age 6.2±4.4 years) were identified. All 19 reported sleep difficulties. The mean serum ferritin level was 19.9±8.5 μg/L, while that in controls was 27.8±17.8 μg/L (

value .13). selleck kinase inhibitor The odds ratio of iron deficiency in Angelman syndrome compared to controls was 4.17 (95% confidence interval 1.23-14.10), using normal serum ferritin level of 24 μg/L based on literature. Fifteen Angelman syndrome patients underwent nocturnal polysomnogram with 9/15 showing an elevated periodic limb movement index (overall mean 9.8±10.4). Seventeen of 19 received iron therapy. Twelve had follow-up after iron therapy, with parents reporting improved sleep quality. Eight had serum ferritin levels rechecked after iron therapy, showing a mean increase of 24±5.1 μg/L.

Sleep difficulties in Angelman syndrome, though multifactorial, may in part be related to iron deficiency. Treatment with iron improved sleep to a modest degree in this population.

This is a multidimensional occupational syndrome, characterized by three main criteria emotional exhaustion (EE), depersonalization (DP), and low personal accomplishment (PA). Burnout is particularly identified in professionals working in caregiving and human services, especially the ones who are interpersonally stressed and emotionally vulnerable. Intensive care professionals seem to face a critical risk of burnout. This study aiming to evaluate the occurrence and the risk factors of burnout among Italian anesthesiologists and intensive care physicians. All members included in the mailing list of the Italian Society of Anesthesia, Analgesia, and Intensive Care were invited to participate in an online survey. An anonymous questionnaire was distributed via a specific website. Burnout was measured using the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) questionnaire. All responses were evaluated through univariate and multivariable logistic regression.
