Our findings provide new insights into the prognostic role of sarcopenia and 2c-RDI for targeted therapy in mRCC.Objective Aim of the study was to examine the effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on respiratory function, respiratory muscle strength, trunk control, balance, and functional capacity in stroke patients. Methods 21 stroke individuals were randomly divided into two groups as control group and treatment group. Respiratory function test, Maximal Inspiratory Pressure (MIP) and Maximal Expiratory Pressure (MEP) were evaluated. Also, Trunk Impairment Scale (TIS), Timed Up and Go Test (TUG) Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT) were performed. Neurodevelopmental treatment program was performed in both groups for 5 days a week for 6 weeks, and IMT was given to the treatment group. IMT was started from 40% of MIP. Results After treatment, respiratory functions, respiratory muscle strength, and trunk control and balance improved in the treatment group. In the control group; however, only the balance level was improved. When the changes in the evaluation parameters between the groups were compared, there were only statistically significant differences in the TIS, Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) and MIP in the treatment group (p˂0.05), the change amounts in other evaluation parameters were similar (p˃0.05). When the effect size of the groups was compared, the effect size of the variables in the treatment group was found to be higher. Conclusions As a conclusion, IMT, which was given in addition to the neurological physiotherapy and rehabilitation program to our patients, improved inspiratory muscle strength and trunk control. We believe that this result will raise awareness for physiotherapists working in the field of neurological rehabilitation about including respiratory muscle training in the rehabilitation program of stroke patients.The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) began in December 2019 and rapidly spread to other provinces in China as well as other countries. In this study, 262 patients diagnosed with moderate to severe SARS-CoV-2 pneumonia in Wuhan, China, were analyzed. Data were compared between survivors and nonsurvivors. Of all the 262 patients, 23 (8.8%) patients died and 239 (91.2%) were discharged. The median age was 63.5 years and 46.9% of patients were male. The main complaints were fever (83.6%), cough (63.4%), and fatigue (49.2%) in the surviving group, while there were more complaints of dyspnea (39.1%) and shortness of breath (56.5%) in the nonsurviving group. The main comorbidities were hypertension (35.5%), diabetes mellitus (16.4%), and coronary artery disease (9.9%). Morbidity is higher in elderly patients with more comorbidities. Patients were mainly treated with nasal cannula (93.9%), while the nonsurviving group received more invasive mechanical ventilation (39.1%). Arbidol (80.9%), ribavirin (36.6%), oseltamivir (38.9%), interferon (16.4%), and ganciclovir (14.5%) were used for the antiviral treatment. In the nonsurviving group, the number of white blood cells (WBC) was significantly increased and lymphocytes were decreased, and lymphopenia was more common. We developed an ex vivo MRI protocol to analyze tract terminations at 750-μm isotropic resolution, followed by histopathological evaluation of white matter pathology, and applied these methods to a 60-year-old man who died 26 days after TBI. Analysis of 74 cerebral hemispheric white matter regions revealed a heterogeneous distribution of tract disruptions. Associated histopathology identified variable white matter injury with patchy deposition of amyloid precursor protein (APP), loss of neurofilament-positive axonal processes, myelin dissolution, astrogliosis, microgliosis, and perivascular hemosiderin-laden macrophages. Multiple linear regression revealed that tract disruption strongly correlated with the density of APP-positive axonal swellings and neurofilament loss. Ex vivo diffusion MRI can detect tract disruptions in the human brain that reflect axonal injury.

    Recent theories in cognitive psychology suggest that working memory (WM) processing involves a set of specific functions, in particular the WM functions of maintenance and interference control. Previous findings on WM impairments in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) had been inconsistent, partly because earlier studies did not take into account these two different functions of WM.

    Forty-two participants with MDD and 39 controls completed the visuospatial change detection task. We estimated the WM function of maintenance, based on performance in trials using the targets only, and the WM function of interference control, based on performance in trials with distractor rectangles.

    Our results showed that participants with MDD had poorer WM function of maintenance and interference control than controls. However, the results of filtering efficiency did not show significant group difference, thus patients with MDD showed comparable impairments in WM function of maintanance as well as in WM function of interference control.

    Our findings suggested that patients with MDD appear to show generalised impairments on visuospatial WM function of maintenance and interference control. Future studies should use refined paradigms to assess the different functions of WM and their distinctive contributions to symptomatology of depression.

    During the COVID-19 pandemic, children with neurodevelopmental disabilities could not attend their usual rehabilitation therapies, with a consequent reduced support of developmental process and risk of worsening of their clinical conditions.

    We prospectively enrolled 14 children with developmental delay, who had already tried a personalised music therapy (Euterpe method). We included them in a 12-day programme of home-based music therapy. The children and their parents were investigated using the Sleep Disturbance Scale for Children and the Parent Stress Index-Short Form.

    Fourteen children started the intervention, while only 12 children completed all the planned home sessions and assessments. We observed a significant improvement in children’s sleep quality and a reduction of parental distress.

    The significant improvements in parental distress and sleep quality must be considered important achievements for the quality of life of a child and their family. Home-based music therapy can provide a feasible approach to improving sleep and parent’s stress for children with developmental disorders.

    Screening for retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is an important procedure in the prevention of blindness in high-risk preterm infants. In the regionalised healthcare system of Queensland (Australia), outside of the major centres, some preterm infants are cared for in special care nurseries (SCNs). When necessary, infants in these nurseries who are at risk of ROP are transferred to a tertiary hospital for screening by paediatric ophthalmologists. The transport of preterm infants for eye examinations adds risk and incurs significant costs to the health system. Using a cost-minimisation approach, we aimed to compare the costs of the current ROP screening practice with two alternative telemedicine approaches.

However, significant trauma is associated with the conventional surgical approach. We report a 26-year-old woman with MAS who presented with hypertension and needed thoraco-abdominal bypass grafting. In this operation, we adopted the endoscopic technique to improve the conventional surgical approach (reduce the incision). This case report shows that it is safe and feasible to use an endoscopic technique to reduce the trauma during this kind of operation, and provides a reference for similar treatments.
