The Strider is Nether’s own ferry service. The player can utilize the same technique as the pig in Overworld to transform the wild Strider into an overworld mount to cross huge lava flows. Personally I don’t mind the occasionally three-hour bridge-building exercises or the glitches that make me plunge right into 2000-degree hot liquid baths, but the Strider certainly makes lava life considerably simpler. You just need a saddle and a stick with a warped fungus. Then giddyup, you’ve got yourself a mount.

A ride on a Strider is a risky experience. Not just due to the fear that you have of falling into lava and losing all your belongings, but also because of the Strider’s motion. When it walks, it wobbles back and forth, just like that bobblehead in your parent’s car that you cannot stop looking at. Brandon says it is charming and is a complete accident.

“Animations in Java’s version of Minecraft aren’t created using an external tool. Instead, it’s basically mathematical functions that cause them to move in a certain way. At one moment I was playing with this, and the Strider just did this sort of wobble from side to side. Irc101 It was fun and quirky especially when you consider the Strider’s… unique design.
