Which image format is best for printing?

To begin with, we need to distinguish between raster and vector images. Raster images, also known as pixels, are usually used for photographs and web graphics that need to be detailed. When zooming in, the photos become more pixelated, but they are the only option. As for vector images, they are created with geometric shapes. Despite their small size, they can be enlarged without losing detail. A vector image is perfect for a logo, animated character, or text.

Although RAW images offer the best resolution, most printers cannot print large and uncompressed files. We recommend using TIFF / TIF instead. As a raster format, it is popular in the publishing and photography industries since it does not compress the original RAW data. It’s a lossless format. It is impossible to print photos with a smaller TIFF file because of its size, but they produce the highest quality images.

In the meantime, PDF is probably the best image format for printing vectors. EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) files are commonly used for vectors, but they need to be converted to raster files before printing. Export the vector image as a PDF after resizing it in Illustrator or Photoshop. There is Wallace Print of this format in the printing industry.

    CMYK vs. RGB

In your editing software, you can choose CMYK or RGB color models when saving raster images. CMYK printing uses four ink colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, and black). As for RGB, it is a color model which combines red, green, and blue to make other colors. Printing is generally done in CMYK, whereas digital media is done in RGB.

In terms of image formats on the web, JPEG is the most popular. JPEG is a lossy format. Photos and graphics are stored in this compressed raster format. You can reduce the size of a JPEG file when exporting it with your image editing software. It is excellent for print projects to use JPEGs with a low compression setting.

A PSD file is a file format that Photoshop is used to store its documents. For editing images before exporting them to print, this is an excellent place to start. You will need to convert PSD files to TIFF or JPEG before printing.

Image formats in Adobe Illustrator are AI and EPS. Designed primarily to edit vector images, AI files can be exported in many different formats (for example, PDF). PDF, TIFF, JPEG).
